I subscribed to an internet filtering service to protect my son from pornography. Because of "enter at your own risk" I haven't been able to access this site from home for several days.

This is a great board and I am going to miss it, but that is the choice that has to be made at least for awhile. I will check in every now and then when I have the chance on someone else's computer, but that doesn't happen very much.

If anyone has a suggestion for a web board that even has close to the good information as this one, I would appreciate an email.

Enjoy the ride!

Good Luck, patsue.

Q: can't you adjust the filter to always accept HDF? I know my pop-up blockers & spam filters can be so adjusted. The EOR is password protected.

Patsue,

I can remove you from access to the Enter At Your Own Risk if you like.

Then you nor anyone else can access it from your computer at home.

Patsue asked me to post this:

"If you would, could you post to my
post in Harleydavidson forums.com that I am using a service called
afafilter.com."

I see from the above post that dprice may be working on that detail. I've heard that people who use these filters sometimes get blocked out of sites relating to movies, guns, bikes, and so on.

Now if they could come up with a spam filter that works AT ALL, I'd go for that.

I'm sure your kid has some friends. Kids are not stupid (WELL). My 11yr old can put a web site together in no time. Downloaded tutorials on HTML and learned it by his self and I gave him a CD Visual Basics, he went wild. I could get him a job in my company if they didn't see how old he was. That parental crap is for YOU, makes ya feel good you did something. Unfortunately kids can work around that in a heartbeat. Remember Napster??? There are a thousand of them know, they didn't stop shitt. If you can't trust yer kid, pull the plug. And if he's a he, let the dam kid have some fun. Didn't you steel yer dad's Playboy? They just have it easier today that's all. You would be better off installing spy type software. You will see every keystroke and know what sites he’s gone on. Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Cut the kid some slack.

I don't know, YFB. There's a lot of porn on the net that adults shouldn't even be looking at (i.e. child pornography). Anything and everything is there from boobs to how to make a bomb. Kids ARE stupid and will try anything they think they can get away with. I admire patsue for taking the responsiblilty to be a concerned parent. You can monitor their behavior now or I can monitor it later.

What YFB was saying though is a filter on your computer is not going to stop anything same as laws have not stopped criminals, your profesion is proof of that! Kids know how to access what they want, if not at home, they know where. There is NO substitute for parental involvement and family values.

My staight A student kids all get monitored at just about every dam thing they do. They just don't know it. If you give them the proper parenting you should be able to trust them. Yet they are kids and very curious. That's why you use software that they don't know is there. Otherwise you won't know what they are into. Putting that kind of worthless software up front tells yer kids they can't be trusted on their own. Not a message I want to send to my kids. I prob sound like biker scum most of the time but father a the year doesn't have shitt on me. I live at least 3 diff lives. Work, home, and play. And they never meet.

I think the filter software has some merit, though it's not foolproof. It at least lets the kids know that porn surfing isn't accepted in the home and that the parents give a crap about it enough to try to stop it. However, the punishment they are dealt when they get caught is what will really let them know you are serious.

They better know what is accepted before an access denied banner pops up !! I'll stand by my earlier statement of parental involvement and family values, and not taught by a damn computer !!!
