Hi all,

A HD salesman just told me that Harley uses powder coat paint on the sheet metal as well as frames. I knew about the frames but this is the first I have heard that the sheet metal is powder coated too. Does anyone know if this is true? It seems suspect after reading the articles about the new 2003 silver paint technique whereby the paint is sprayed extremely thinly, moreso than usual.

I just returned from a tour thru the assembly plant in York, PA. If I remember correctly, the prep sealer is powder coat but actual paint is sprayed on. PPG is source of paint.

Powdercoat on frames and certain specific parts such as but not limited to lic. plate and foot peg brackets, swing arms and the like.Base coat - clear coat paint systems are used as top coats on sheet metal parts. Although an E-coat or electrstatically applied primer is pretty much industry standard.
