Just finished breaking-in New 02'FLHTCI. I'm impressed with spot-on accuracy of stock EFI mapping. Plan on stage-1 pipes and air box...no other engine modifications beyond that. Question...Is H-D's stage-1 remap/chip as spot-on as the stock mapping (backfires-pops-hicups-missing-etc)?

I added the SE slipons before I rode my 02 Road King off the lot. Seemed to run fine. Added stage 1 at the 500 miler. Ran MUCH better, but it does pop some on decel. Never seems to miss or hicup. From the threads herein it seems like this might be a result of the fuel injection? I personally don't mind the popping at all, and it really runs strong in the low to mid rpm range as compared to the stock chip (although the SE pipes might have eroded some of the throttle response, not sure).

Plan to add a stage 2 next summer.

Thanks gbenner, I'm having trouble deciding wheather to go with H-D's stage-1 down load or with PCIII. Your results sound like what I prefer. I've read where people with PCIII's are getting poor gas mileage with the stage-1 stuff, and many of those folks go out and spend extra $$'s for a Dyno run to fine tune the PCIII and gain one or two horses. I'm almost sure that I'll stop with the Stage-1, so mayby the H-D down load is the best for me.

I am almost certain harley uses a "one-size-fits-all" download for stage 1 so whether or not it is spot on will depend on what pipes and breather you get.

Logical, I beleive you're right about the one size fits all. I've already got the H-D Screaming Eagle air box (not installed yet), and I like the looks and sound of Samson turn-outs touring mufflers. Turn-outs work well when pulling a trailer...the noise doesn't bounce off the front of the trailer and give you a headache.
