I ride an 86 Liberty FXRS SP with original paint. It sports a Screamin' Eagle ignition, S&S Carb and Vance and Hines pipes-Growls really sweet. However, I am having a problem with the positive battery cable. The previous owner connected the hot lead wire with a wire connector that shorts because it's the wrong wire size (Blue (14g) instead of yellow (12g)) However, I really need a new battery cable because the connector will not lie flat and shakes loose, which results in shaky starting and dead batteries. The question is did the original come with the lead built into the positive cable or was the hot lead a totally seperate wire. (right now they are seperate. It seems to me the one with the hot wire built into the cable would make a stronger connection, But I am not sure. Any advice? I already plan to add lock washers no matter which option I choose. I have not had any luck trying to find out how it was originally.
