So I just noticed that my wife's 91 FXR's final drive belt is cracking.

I've had the primary off on my FXR to replace the fifth gear extension seal, so I figure I'll tackle this job my-self.

So he's my question. Since I have to pull the primary and drop the swing arm to do this, is there anything I should think about replacing/upgrading while I'm that far into the bike? For example I've heard the axle adjusters can be replaced and they make the bike feel a bit more stable.... It's a 1991 low rider if that makes any difference.

swing arm bushings...not sure what axle adjusters have to do with stability.

Yeah I was trying to type this while the family was getting ready to leave the house, then while on the road I realized I said axle adjusters instead of swing arm bushings... bone head mistake.

Anyway, got a suggestion as to what swing arm bushing to put in there?

Whenever working on a bike in this deep, it's always a good Idea to give the motor mounts a close inspection, recheck the adjustment on the engine stabilizer rods.

Cool, So are you really just checking to see if the Heim joints are loose (I do have a FSM, so I can check for the info in there, but it wouldn't be a good FXR tech thread if I didn't ask )

Yeah, gotta have the conversation.. also take a second and look at
the front motor mount. Inspect it from underneath, looking for cracks or separations.
I would also suggest checking the alignment, pg. 2.31 in the 91-92 FSM

Wear and to see if there in adjustment.

To test, once all back together if you loosen one of the mount bolt (Either side bill work) remove the bolt, it should have no side load at all, it should come in ands out easily. If the engine has a load (You have to push the engine one way or the other) use the adjustment to remove the side load.
This is done with the motorcycle upright and level.

I took mine to the shop to place a new belt on...also getting the rear mounts to the swing arm replaced wile replacing belt. I am getting new heads and that 85" high compression bolt on jugs. (Revolution Performance). My chopper front end aint in yet from germany but I expect it soon. I should post pics for you guys to drool over....FXR or Die Baby!

You should... what else are you doing with the 85" kit? Head work? Cam?
