I began to replace the gasket in the cross over and now have some questions about it:confused:

What is the purpose of the washer that goes behind the gasket? That washer is still very loose. Or is it suppose to be smashed against the gasket? So far, I am unable to get the crossover section to go farther inside like it use to be.

I used high-temp silicone and the official harley gasket.

Please help

Since the gasket is a crush-style the washer prevents the gasket from over-deforming and leaking. The crossover should be the first thing you connect when reinstalling the exhaust system. Then install the exhaust system as a unit. This sometimes requires a lot of twisting, rocking and shaking to get it into place. You should probably remove the exhaust and start over since you said it doesn't fit "like it use to be".

I managed to get it finally after ALOT of twisting and cussing to myself. I test rode it and it does not backfire anymore. I guess it was sucking cold air in through the leak exploding with the hot air. It also does not squeak anymore!!

I only wish I did this along time ago when I was feeling better!!
