i currently run a synthetic 20w50. the manual says to run 10w40 for weather below 40 degrees. mobil 1 20w50 is expensive so i bougth a 5 qt jug of mobil 1 15w50 for $25 at wally world plus an oil filter for $9.50 (i didn't know they sell bike filters). do you think the 15w50 will do any harm and be an o.k. oil for the late fall/winter/early spring?

what weight oil do you run in the tranny? 80 or 90 weight gear oil?

I'm right above you in N.J. I used Harley's 10-40 in my 98 RoadKing. I have an 03 EGC now and I run Syn-3 20-50 year 'round. You could also run Amsoil's 20-50 too. I ride all year, and have not had a problem with the Syn 20-50 any time of year. Dump the 15-50, it won't give you the best cold start protection.
