You shouldn't have any problem removing the top end with the motor still in the bike.
Engine Question on 97 Dresser
Strange noise coming from the engine, sounds like top end (Rapping). Could be a loose piston pin or cracked piston, loose rod? My question is:
Do I have to remove the engine to pull down the top end? Manual shows removing the engine to do any work on it. I am pretty sure that the motor can stay but not positive. If it has to come out, about how long should it take?

Only problem you will have and it only needs some patience is removing the rear rocker box.?prty:

Rocker box wasn't too bad... made a shorty allen wrench and it worked fine. Tore down to find a bad rod.
