You ask that question on a V-Twin Forum, what answer do you expect to get?
The EG of course.
Ask the same question on a wing forum and what answer will you get?
The Gold Wing of course.
Ride them both and make up you own mind.
The EG can be made to fit you personallity, Gold Wings are just that a Gold Wing.
Both are good touring bikes. What do you want to ride?
LittleBear is right, ride them both and then decide. What will you be happy with?

Dude, that's a loaded question on a MoCo board. I guess it depends on what your definition is of "Touring Bike". What do you want a touring bike to do?

I've owned Wings the last 25 years and H-D's since '69. I do 25-30,000 miles a year and do many 800 mile days. What do you want to know?

I'd give you my opinion, but I wouldn't be able to run & hide fast enough! LOL.... My definition of Touring Bike and yours might be totally different. :sofa:

given that this is primarily an HD forum, do you really think anyone is going to say a "Jap" bike is better than an EG??? They have distinctly different personalities and riding characteristics and the only way to answer this is for you to test ride each and decide for yourself.

Here's my experience....my dad currently owns an EG that I've ridden quite a bit. I owned a GW in the past and I currently ride with 3 guys that have newer GWs and 2 that have newer K1200LTs. They definitely lack "HD soul", but the combination of sophistication, power, balance and rideability put the GW and LT at the top of MY list. OK guys, let me have it...:flames:
Gold Wing or Ultra Glide

They are both outstanding bikes, and it is a matter of personal preference. Myself, I plan on getting an Ultra, late in 06. They're just beautiful classic looking bikes, easy to customize, beautiful colors to choose from, easy to manuever, distinct sound, solid built, smooth as a Cadillac, .... did I leave anything out?

Get the Ultra!!!
Get the Goldwing! It's got an airbag coming soon!.
I've had both. Comes down to do you want a Motorcycle or a 2 wheeled Winibago?
you meet really nice people riding a gold "thing" who have really cool matching outfits (husband and wife) and know where to get ice cream in every burg in N America..

gold thing ..just say no!
unless you like the matching outfit deal..
I say don't buy either one. Get a bike without a batwing. :p

Now that's funny! Kinda sounds like a narrow minded Winger describing a H-D owner. :(

I've ridden for 40 years and don't really care what someone else decides to ride. They're all good!

The last time I looked the Wing was built in Marysville, Ohio. Ohio is still in the States isn't it? LMAO....

Does the Goldwing have power steering??

No, but it does come standard with 110HP and 125lbs of torque.

It also comes with a/c, fax machine, auto pilot, and cappuccino maker. The real selling point is the optional GPS. The GPS comes with all Dairy Queens in the U.S. and Canada marked! LOL....

The Wing vs H-D discussions go nowhere. It doesn't work on a H-D board and it doesn't work on a Wing board. You'll get tons of opinions. You'll get very few facts when comparing the two. :ntlgh:
.... But if you do get the wing, don't get the powered air louvers on the lower fairing, apparently Honda is having a problem with those when the bike is placed in reverse. Now the air bag, that working just fine, but the passenger air bag is altogether another problem.
I say take them both for a ride and form your own opinion. I own a Ultra Classic, I ride with a guy that has a 05 Wing, I've taken his Wing for a ride and it's nice but... I like the Harley because it has more room for my big feet to move around, finding the brake and shifter on the Wing was a real drag. The Wing is loaded with plastic body work which to do any kind of mtce work requires you to remove it, my Ultra doesn't. The Wing isn't a cheap bike to buy, it starts around 18K depending on the dealer. For the 18K you don't get much, the gas mileage on the Wing sucks 37mpg to my Ultra's 42 - 48 mpg.
If you are interested in Riding that is about handling, power and reliability = Get the Goldwing.

If you are interested in *Lifestyle profiling and getting dressed up in the little pirate outfit ( like so many of our brethern ) and want to sweat how long the engine will last until you have to shovel money into it - but it makes you feel better and "cooler", get the Bagger. Both have same resale and dealer support.

There is no "Perfect" bike.

* Beware the stereotyping and buy what talks to your heart.

I have both and have never had problems with either. There is no "Perfect" bike.

Harr, matey! :hystria: (couldn't find a pirate emoticon for ya!)

The Wing definitely has one thing over an Ultra, power. Reliability and handling are pretty much the same in this day and age (apparently you are still living in the 70-80's when you think about Harleys and how long a TC motor will last!)

It really depends on what you are looking for. To me, a Goldwing feels more like a convertible riding around than a motorcycle (due to it's smoothness and ride), the EG (and Road Glides) feel like you're actually riding a motorcycle! Try them both out and see what you think!

My father in law has a 2000-01 Goldwing (last year of the 1500). The Goldwing is certainly a much heavier bike (when stopped). It's a nice ride, looks nice, and the espresso machine on it is top notch, but even he talks about getting an Ultra.

Is there any TC motors out there with 250,000 miles on them that's never been touched with a wrench, except maybe alt brushes at 125,000? I can find you hundreds of Wings with that mileage. There's no way you can get the longevity from a air cooled motor you can a water cooled. The tolerances on the water cooled can be much tighter. I'm not living in the 70's, but I did own H-D's in the 70's. LOL...

If your Father had the last 1500, it was a 2000. The GL1800 will flat blow away anything H-D can throw at it except the Rod in the mountains or twisties. Some of the H-D's will out handle a Wing in the parking lot. I just haven't done too many 800 mile days in a parking lot lately. LOL.. Sorry, it's just a fact.

They are both excellent bikes. No way can you compare them. If you're honest with yourself there is no comparison if you want a "Touring Bike". I'm lucky and have almost always owned both, a H-D product and a Wing.

Ride what you want, but enjoy it!

I've owned a few HD's and currently own a Street Glide. I also own a 06 Wing; owned a BMW LT for a couple of years too.

My Glide is my everyday/commuter bike. My Wing is my touring/trip bike for the wife and I.

Each have their good points. Try to test ride both before you decide.

regards
Get a BMW. But seriously this is HD forum. Anything will ride better then your 76.
