Opinions welcome... even desired!!
I have come upon an Early 5-speed FXR Transmission Case, with covers, and some "stuff"
I am contemplating a winter project putting it together.. maybe with late "guts" and mainshaft... maybe Not.
How many feel this is Futile? I'm thinking I may end up with nothing but a Boat Anchor... as I have yet to hurt mine...another seems redundant!!
so... Two Fold... Stock '79 to'84??? or updated? or... do something More constructive???????

Depends on what it is. Other than the main shaft and some upgrades or downgrades to the main drive gear over the years, the gear sets are the same.

Early 84 and back, its a shovel style trans with a keyed shaft. That's about it. Late 84 is only late 84 and needs a late 84 primary. The 85 is also just 85. 86 on, and you have something to work with. But at the prices they bring, you can't afford to fix much and make a profit.

If you still have that case I could use it for my 1969 FLH, I have a set of 1993 trans. gears.
1969, was/is a 4 speed... I have an Early, rubbermount, 5-speed box, unless you can locate yerself an Early Softail 5-speed... I hear they will go.
Sorry but All of the 4-speed boxes around here, have a Home!!
If I ever get enough $$ ahead, I will get a 4-speed Baker... then one of these old Crash Boxes can go..

Those are hard to find and bringing high dollars.
Yes... they are getting difficult to locate... Right now I am resurrecting one of the Last (belt secondary even) of them...as well as a Very old Ratchet top...Very sad cases... a friend removed the "Ears", for some reason, known Only to him!!!
so it may leave the farm!!!

Race press i dont see a 4 speed on Bakers Site i was going to buy one . Only 6 into 4
Met with Bert... planned reintroduction of the real deal 4-speed... maybe yet this year... Yes, I strongly encouraged reintroduction...FW Thats W... yes the 6 in a Four is still available... Nothing I want...but..
