I posted this on another board- seeing if anyone here has used them. I am interested in a set of denim chaps or input on them. It gets so hot in the summer and riding in shorts is an ass kicking waiting to happen.

hmmmm, I guess I don't get it. Leather chaps can be great for weather protection being an excellent wind blocker, they keep little pebbles and debre from stinging when hitting your legs, they privide good road rash protection for those times that hopefully will never happen, are easy to maintain, last for years, and fold up fairly small for storage. I saw a test report on sliding against a road surface with various materials. I wish I could remember where I saw it, but what I do remember is that denim had a slide time so slight at 50 MPH before wearing through that is was considered useless.. Leather had a substantial amount of time/feet for protection in comparison. Other woven fabrics including ballistic cloth did not fair near as well as one might think either. I guess the only advantage for demin instead of nothing would be a little extra time against a hot pipe or cushion from hitting a large insect, or sun burn. Is there any other advantages I'm missing here?

There is a company who makes them lined with kevlar- those are the ones I'm interested in- just wondering if anyone on this board had tried them.

Makes sense with Kevlar. I wouldn't bother otherwise. I think the study had about a 3 ft. sliding distance for denim.

I've been wearing the Draggin Jeans for a few years now. Actually had a chance to crash test them last spring. I took a low-side fall and did about 25ft on the asphault. The denin wore through to the kevlar on the right knee and hip, but not a scratch on my legs. They look just like regular jeans and fit like Levis 501's. I'm gonna get me a new pair once this weather thaws out.

Sorry about your fall but I always wonder what would happen if you went down wearing them. Now I'm definitely investing in several pairs.

Just got back from the cycle show. Was looking for these jeans. Didn't see any. Maybe it's because leather makes more sense up here at the north pole...LOL I got a new leather jacket though!:D
