Dealer 95" build estimate.....Help!

9583 Views 95 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  Totenkopf
I spoke with my dealer today and told them what I wanted to do. Here is what I said.... 95" big bore, Se Flat top pistons, Andrews 37g cams, heads ported by Dewey, cylinders bored locally. They are better with the Powercomander for tuning, I'm fine with that.

Here's the parts breakdown they gave me in the estimate, is this right?

17052-99a Gasket Kit, Top End 63.88
17991-99a Quick Install Pushrods 118.96
22851-99a 1550 piston 118.96
25244-99 Gasket Cam Cover 2.55
ds-199535 4gear set gear drive 323.81
ds-199247 37g cams 239.66
ds199532 complete gear set 334.01
powercommander 295.00

Labor 11hrs @ $70 770.00

Porting 750.00
cylinder boring 150.00

est tuning 4 hrs 400.00

Total $3166.83

Am I missing something here? They are running a special on a 103 build for $3300. That's complete out the door with powercommander and tuning. Any thoughts?:hmmm:

Why is there two gear sets listed?? Also, you could retain your stock pushrods with that cam. The head porting cost seems pretty excessive. Maybe you should go with the 103. What cam are they putting with the 103 build and what is the breakdown in price?
Something is not right, you have 2 gearsets listed. I would talk to Dewey about getting the whole package from him that way the pistons would have the valve reliefs modified that the SE flatops require. also he would save you money on the gaskets and geardrive cam set! I can send you a PCIII usb custom map from my 37g set up that will get you real close as long as you have the stage one download.
Mike
After posting the numbers I noticed the two sets of gear drives as well. Must have been a mistake on his part. As for the heads, it's a pro-street port you can check it out here
http://www.deweyspegs.com/products.html#tc88porting

The 103 kit ad I have from them just lists parts, not part numbers. Cylinders, forged pistons, cams (no spec listed), SE Heads, Comp. Releases, adj. pushrods, PCIII, high flow a/c $3299 installed and tuned.

Just when you think you got something figured out...............:roflback:
When you have Dewey do your heads,he will sell you the gear drive cams for $500. A 103 is going to need alot of work to outrun a 95 with Dewey's heads and 37 cams. That has been proven many of times !
Bullet,

Check your pm's.

My local indy charged me $390 for the same build AND he installed the SE clutch spring and a new rotor at the same time (compensator nut had come loose).

Porting $750???????? Good porting jobs can be had for $400 or so

My cylinders cost $110 to bore

A custom PC map is $250 in the Phoenix area, I think that is pretty much a standard price.

Teu
tell him to sharpen his pencil! if he says "those people you're talikng to" are wrong in any way, just thank him and walk away. The 103 does sound like a pretty good deal, should be able to pick your cams since they are all the same price. 257's with that setup would be pretty sweet from what I've read.

HogJr,
Dewey typically sets up his heads for the Cometic 0.030 which is part of his ProStreet package. (You would not need the complete top end gasket kit).I have these heads (from my former 95" 37G build) and will install them on a 107" I am putting together right now. Well worth the $750. I looked into the stroker option before I went to the 107" with stock stroke, too much piston speed for me. Other than that, the kit looks complete to me. What exhaust will you run?
Maybe the 103" special works well for HogSr
I'll be running the stock pipes w/ SEII slip ons to start. If the need arises, I am looking at Cycle Shacks. Anybody ever deal with Fuel Moto? I can get The PCIII from them for $279 including shipping, and supposedly a map that will get me close to where I need to be.
As for HogSR, I'll let him tell you what he decided to do yesterday. All I can say is, it suites his style & MrsHogSR was right there with him! Sometimes I wonder who's the bigger kid, but given the fact he is older (older=experience),
he wins that race, too!:spank:
:mad:gree:

The difference between port jobs is like the difference between a paint by number watercolor and a Picasso. I'll take the true artist every time. Dewey has been recommended as such, and has the dyno's to back it up.:bowdwn:
We have traded many emails with questions and answers and he has been very patient with me.
Not sure if you can ask for more than that from anyone, besides a little lizzard juice.......

Son,
You had better check the price on that 103" build again. If that is the one that is listed in their flyer it's a 95" build with the addition of the SE heads and comp releases. As always, I may be wrong but verify it anyway

Ooops,

Looks like you saved my a$$ again...........but according to the salesman, they are running a 103" special for around that price, just not advertised. It's kind of a mute point however,as I will be doing the 95" build. So, you gonna spill on what you're doing with the Ultra?:brows:

What a name. You also called the Lone Ranger!!! Just joking partner.
I am in Frederick, Md. Just called Dewey. Real person there and knowledgeable. I called the Farmington HD for reference per Dewey's request.
I am planning the 95' build on a 06 FLHXI. Any advice would help alot.
thanks in advance.
Well, the dealer picked the bike up last Saturday. They will be ordering the parts for the build and calling me when they arrive. Once the bike is torn down, Dewey gets the heads for a pro-street port, and I'll take the cylinders to be bored locally. While all that's taking place, the dealer will be installing the 37g cams, and then waiting for the rest to get back. I decided to go with the PCIII, as that is what they know best for tuning. All I know for sure is that it's still going to be winter when it's done, and waiting to ride ain't gonna be easy.

I guess my engine will be finished first, since they picked mine up ahead of yours. I just decided to not only have the custom paint done, wait until you see the va-roooooom!!!!!! You and your neighbor will be going back to the drawing boards. :ntlgh:
Pops,

Guess I'm going to have to give you a call to find out if your pulling my leg or not. If you are getting something else done, all I can say is:clap:
As far as going back to the drawing board is concerned, I'll do that after you go to the gym and put yourself and your bike on a diet. There's a nice comfy weight differential here (geezerglide vs. superglide) not to mention (HogSR vs. HogJR-the new and improved model). Anyway, I'll give you a call.

p.s. Your hair looks great today...............both of them!:265:  :duh?:

Gotta love the old man, he can %[email protected] with the best of them, and take it back as well.:harhar:

Out of respect, I'll probably allows follow his lead, but out of irreverance, I'll smoke him on occasion. :flames:
Here we Go!

It's been a while since I've posted anything, so here's the latest update. I finally got the ball rolling on the build. Bike's at the dealer in a disassembled state. Cylinders have been bored and honed, and the heads are on there way to Dewey as of this afternoon for a Pro Street port job. Now the waiting is really gonna kill me................

Update on HogSR's paint job. He took a little trip to the paint shop and found his parts being given their final buffing. From the pictures he took, all I can say is WOW! If we're lucky, he'll post a few.
