My guess would be someone did not use the torque plates on the barrels when sizing/honing them. The torque plates cause the barrels to act like they are under assembled stress condition so, are a necessity to keep distortion @ a minimum
Whatever the reason, the cylinder bore is way out of concentricity resulting in corrosion caused by humidity formed by condensation after the engine cooled down. Besides that the piston and/or piston ring size appears to be improperly matched resulting in excessive wear of the cylinder wall.

Armin.
Yeah it was supposed to be a matched set from Axtell, it was their 124r package.
Bore is Distorted, didn't use a Torque Plate.
I don't know if it is distorted, or just the pic because it is posed on that plastic covered foam on one side and the pushrods on the other side. If it had been on a flat hard surface, it might look better. But those distorted threads on the pushrods caught my eye.

Could just be the picture. Or my eyes.
Rust? OK, what about the real issue of the scoring? These have been seized.
The rust is old, the wasted cylinders appear fresh.
This must be an early pre-squirter model.
Low RPM idle and no oil on the pistons?
Or gas contaminated oil?
Or ring end gap too small?
I'd expect the pistons are junque as well.
I'd volunteer this unit for an oil tank cleaning as well.
The rust is a real head-scratcher.

How many miles on that jug ?

This one was still running. Actually, pretty decent.

Did you see the cylinders before they were installed?

HEAT

Yes they were brand new and perfect.
Yes I had a series of unfortunate events that cause a lot of problems. I just never seen a cylinder have those spots before and was curious.
