Hey guys, I'm thinking about building a new custom softail bike with a Rolling Thunder frame and S&S motor to keep my H-D company.

The only problem I have before starting is the problem's I will have to register and insure the bike when I'm done.

I was told that the frame Manufacturers only stamp a national ID number and not a VIN number and this could pose problems registering and insuring the bike. And you have to be a designated motorcycle manufacturer to assign a VIN number.


Anybody have any info on this subject? Is there a way around this?

From what I've read, it varies from state to state. Best bet is to call the motor vehicle department, (or whatever they call it in your state) and find out first hand.
