I believe Bobby Wood's offers a dual channel release that bleeds more compression than a standard one. Also, i have seen stock heads with 2 releases per head. Not common, but have seen it done.

The new electric releases from HD work with the new ACR (automatic compression release) heads. The bore is significantly bigger and would bleed off way too much comp. The ECM sends pulses for a rapid open-close action to control the bleed off. This requires a late model ECM cal.

Thats right. Also, have seen S+S's electric releases self destruct. Not common, but when you complicate a design, things break. Simple is what i like.

Flstc, here are some links.

I've got the S&S electronic compression releases and just had to replace one because it failed and was stuck open. But I still have trouble getting the engine to turn over, always have. I can hear the starter hum if I hold the button down too long...

They are working, I can feel them drop when I push the start button. Problem is, the engine literally locks up when I first attempt to start it (hot or cold but hot is worse).

After pushing the start button a few times it will spin over and start. THe starter does engage when I hit the button, I can hear and feel it. The engine just doesn't want to spin...

Tried different starters, batteries, #2 cables, 10-84 R&P, etc, etc... Nothing makes a difference. I've yet to take a compression reading but I need to just for the record. It has ALWAYS done this since the local "circus" built it for me...

With the money I have invested, I could of bought a bigger motor from Randy...

Now with the strange whirring / clicking noise that I can hear at 80 mph (which seems to be coming from the crank / counter-balancer area), I'm getting paranoid to ride her.

Never know until I pull her apart. But when it's time to go back together, I want to be 100 % sure it's right...

Guessing is too damn expensive!

The TCFI IID allows you to set timing at numerous rpm & throttle openings.

It also allows you to determine at which revolution of the motor (1-3) you want it to fire off.

I've tried as low as 4 degrees in the 500/1000/1500 (0% throttle) ranges and it does no good.

I've never tried going negative timing for start-up though...

There are more than a few DTT's for sale on this site and others. Most of the guys running big motors on VTF are using the SERT, some have previously tried the DTT but experienced so many problems they switched.

FWIW I sometimes have the hot-start issues you have described. It's the last gremlin to work out. Mine fires instantly when cold or warm, but if i ride in 85-Plus degree weather and stop then restart it sometimes kicks-back and or won't turn over. This is with NEW a 2.0 tech starter, 2ga 1200-strand wire, gold plated ends, and a fresh battery. If it sits a few minutes it starts right up again. I can't figure it out...

After looking at my SSW+ heads, it makes me wonder where you would put mechanical compression releases?

I tried a 2.0 Kw starter and that sucked the life right out of the battery... Big Boar 350 or whatever, it didn't matter. Was told it draws too many amps so I went back to a 1.4Kw starter. Didn't help either.
