Chrome on NightTrain?

I have just taken delivery of a new 08 NightTrain. The dealer had already lowered it, equipped it with Stage 1, LED, upgraded disc wheel and skull pegs, grips, mirrors.

Wasn't sure that I wanted the skull pegs, grips and mirrors. I was told I can use a credit to replace whatever I want. I'm thinking a NightTrain is black anyhow so going to stock mirrors, grips and pegs should still look good no?

I can apply that $ toward sissy bar, leathers, front wheel etc. What do you guys think? Should I loose the grips, pegs, mirrors for stock?

I'd like to see pics as is now, I think just a tiny bit of chrome in the right places can really set the bike off! Just remember anything chrome on that bike will really jump out so make sure it where you want it.

A little chrome will customize it a bit, and set yours apart from all the stock ones that are out there....

But definitely, less is more in this case. Good luck with it!!

Stock mirrors and grips are the UGLIEST thing on a Harley. Whatever they have on it has to look better (I like the skull collection myself). Some of their mirrors aren't that great, but the stock ones plain suck (cosmetically).

The grips/mirrors shouldn't have been all that much, leave it and buy whatever else you want.

Also... chrome looks great on a black (I"m assuming?) bike. Was at a bike event Saturday, and saw a black FLHX (Street Glide). It was basically.... black and chrome. Wow, was that a sweet looking ride. The contrast between the two are awesome.

Chrome on a Night Train?!?!

Wow... Next thing you know, they'll be painted an actual color, too.:265: Since I got my '02 Train, I've been getting rid of all the chrome I can. Really, the only things left are the pushrod tubes, oil lines, shift linkage and assorted hardware.

Sometimes I'd like to be able to post pics here. I have some on other forums. Picture an all-black Fatboy with spoked wheels, and you're close.

Thanks for the tip. I will have a credit to use against the mirrors, pegs, grips etc.

I was thinking perhaps I should take the full credit and put the original mirrors, pegs, grips and use toward quick release sissybar, some leathers etc.

I forgot how the stock parts look. Why didn't you keep the original black parts?

dude you should use the credit to get that badd ass inverted black/black front end out of the catalog for about 1200.00 bones..

on another note don't forget to get some car wax on that back wheel. I am not so sure how the L Radius pipes will be but with my short shots I have to polish that wheel constantly if i don't keep the wax on good.

There's nothing wrong with adding a little chrome to a Night Train. Hell, they come with quite a bit of chrome from the factory. I read a Harley book where Willy G. Davidson commented on the Night Train. He said there are multiple textures and shades of black and chrome on the bike to give contrast. If you add too much chrome, you'll lose some of that effect. On the other hand, there are these guys who imho take the other extreme where they think all chrome is evil and they must spend every last dime turning everything on their Night Train black. I don't care for that look either, because you lose some of that contrast that really makes these bikes pop.

What I have done, is to take many of the parts that came from the factory as polished, and replaced them with chrome. Look at the bolts on your bike. Many of them are just zinc. Converting them to chrome really makes them pop and look awesome. The hand levers are just polished, so you could go chrome or black with those.

take the time to go through the Night Train thread and perhaps the Softail Standard thread and you will most likely see pictures of everymod in some way on some bike and have a feel for what you like. One of the bikes in there has its evolution posted and you can see it now on the cover of Hot Bike. Most Train buyers are drawn to the black bike or the black driveline. Some like the flat look and bring it out. Personally I dont get into the flat at all and am slowly turning mine into bike where every flat black part is becoming gloss and every aluminum part is becoming chrome or stainless. Whatever works for you.

Yeah, I know what bike you're talking about. I think there is a point a person can cross, where they just do mods for the sake of doing mods, and the bike sort of drifts into the twilight zone. It's like, dude- get another hobby. Imho, that bike has done just that. What's next for that guy to add? Some fake rocket launchers? Didn't he get banned from this forum? What's he doing back monopolizing that thread again? :beatdh:
