The large hockey puck knobs used to latch the saddlebag lids on police touring bikes can be easily replaced by a chrome, flush mounted latch.
You can see the product at squadfitters.com's website and it sells there for $69.95 for a pair of latches, instructions, and four black plastic plugs to fill in the holes left in the lid when the rivets are removed from the OEM closing mechanism.
You can save yourself some $$$ by purchasing the identical latch from a Southco distributor for $10.00 per latch ($20 for the pair) plus shipping via UPS ground.
The Southco part number is M1-2A-13-1. I ordered mine from Austin Hardware & Supply of Lee's Summit, MO, phone 816-246-2800.
If you go to Squadfitters website, the picture showing the chrome flush mount latch is identical to my installation since I too used the Bar and Shield license plate hardware to fill the rivet holes, rather than using plastic plugs available from Lowe's or Home Depot.
If you need installation instructions, email me and I will send them to you.
The Harley dealer I purchased my 04 FLHTPI in Feb. 05 is now installing these chrome flush mounts on a large number of EG and RK police models that are coming off lease from motor escort services here in the Atlanta area.
Nothing against the hockey pucks, but I prefer the chrome flush mount, especially with an out of pocket cost of about $30 plus the license plaste hardware.
