I have a carbed 02 fatty with se air cleaner and LSR 2in1
over the years I would notice my carb whistling just off idle from to time to time
it seemed to come and go and never really be much of a bother

that was until a recent ride over to parkfield ca which involved a few miles of dirt road which by the end of it the bike was covered in dust and singing like a bird chirping with every intake pulse

oddly enough by rides end it was somewhat quiet again

so I finally removed to carb to see what's up and was quite surprised to find a carbon build up in the boar of the carb like black freckles behind the throttle plate

after cleaning I was amazed how much better and quieter the bike ran
so in conclusion the SE air filter doesn't get it all...a softail isn't a good dirt bike and if your carb is whistling at you it needs some cleaning

The S.E. air cleaner or any K&N(gauze) Type filter will not get the real fine dust the can and will do more damage over time. They where not ment for real dusty conditions. I would suggest a foam cover for the filter if this is going to be a regular route when out riding. Also clean and reoil the filter more often than recommended as the filter will dry out over time.
They gauze type filters are good for what they'er designed for clean dry areas.
