first i wanna thank everyone for the help on my other topic bout my uncles bike. I just got my 88 sporty 1200 back from the shop. it has 60,000 miles on it and i had the top end rebuilt. pistons rings bored the cyclinders out, etc. The guy at the shop said that the first 500 miles are critical to the life of the new top end. he also said that the first 50 miles are super crucial to it also.

So can i put the first 50 miles on all at once or should i do it in little spurts in the cooler morning and evening weather.

Any other tips and all the good stuff is appreciated. Thanks again, Everett

Hi,
ride the bike normally.
Avoid city-traffic. Not too much stop-and-go.
Don't rev it up too hard. Keep shifting the gears. Look that the RPM's don't get too low and not too high. Think that engine-speed should be between 1500-4000.
Try riding the 500mls in almost one go without a passenger.
Remember that cold-starts and short rides are THE engine-killers,this is why generator-engines are running forever (...humming like a Detroit-Diesel..)

ray.
