Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF in the primary - shifts great, clicks into gear - no clunking, and I can find neutral.

I see the comment occasionally about using the cheaper Formula+ or cheap diesel oil in the primary instead of a better more expensive priced fluid and wonder about the theory. What are we talking about saving maybe a couple of dollars on a $20,000 bike? No problem spending that much on a gallon of gas that is burned up rather quickly, whereby the fluids you use last several thousand miles and usually offer a higher level of performance and protection over the so called cheaper stuff.

Sorry for the resurrection

Wow, I didn't realize I was opening a ancient string. My point was to report what I believe to be an issue with Redline MTL in the primary. I believe it should not be used in the primary as it will eventually create problems with the friction plates and slippage.

I decided to change my primary lube over to Royal Purple 20W50 as I was changing the oil at the same time. I rode the bike approximately 150 miles after the change yesterday. The clutch felt great, no more slippage on the upshifts. Was it the Redline MTL? Given the fact that I didn't do anything else, I would say yes but everyone has to make their own call.

my 0.02

i have ~20000 miles on a twinkie. been using nothing but mobile 1 15W-50 in the motor and primary. mobil quit making this for a while but brought it back. i went to mobile syn 75-140 in the transmission. i felt a clunk while running 75-90 so i went for more viscosity at high temps. there has been some discussion about using b&m trick shift in the primary over at the other forum, opinions vary of course.
