I pulled the lower one just because I thought it looked stupid. The upper one I;m going to leave just for the fact I don't want a passenger to get fawked up

Just a few miles ago I had to replace my belt. A 3/8# rock with the asphalt still on it went nearly through the belt. That is with the guard in place. I'm now the proud owner of a two hundred dollar rock and an emergency belt. Why tempt fate?

road king, I used to agree with you 100%. BUT i kept the beltguards on both my fatboy and texas chopper, and i still got holes in each belt. I think the main purpose is for safety. From what i would guess most of the rocks and debris bounce of the swingarm and between the belt an pulley. Where i live, on the sidestreets, they tar and pebble the roads once a year. For the first week or two i actuall push my bike out to the main street. Not to mention the dust it makes...
