I just bought a Kuryakyn Twin Velocity Plus air cleaner and want to use it now but won't change the exhaust, injection (i.e. go to Stage 1) until after a one-month trip in March. Any risk of running too lean on some long touring days JUST by changing the air cleaner? Thanks in advance.

Yes. The bike is too lean from the factory for EPA mandates.

The general concensus is that either the A/C or pipes won't make a difference unless changing them both at the same time. However, since you won't get any benefit out of it (other than looks), don't take a chance, Leave it off until after the trip.

My dealer said you don't need to do the download just for pipes. But he would not recommend changing the air cleaner with out it.YMMV

To be safe I would leave it alone, Your current program is allowwing "X" amount of fuel in you install a A/C that can now aloow more air you are leaning out the AFR. True you need to get it out as well but you AFR will get leaner. Really way take the chance that you can run into a issue. Do the parts and have it tuned.
