Any tips on getting around shifter shaft 2000 dyna

I'm removing the inner primary and ran into a problem of getting around the shifter shaft to be able to lock up the compensator/clutch so I can remove them. It's a 2000 dyna superglide that's got a leaking inner seal. I'm quite capable as a mechanic and have good tools but am getting beaten be a shifter tube. Lol. any tips would be greatly appreciated and tried

use a 1 in sq. or slat of some kind 8"? long aluminum or steel..8 in..on my 91 bagger... 80/20 alum stuff works(mine) from work...and place laterally angled install into opposing teeth...u nd to remove the tensioner assy ..easy...that setup is not good the way u have it on the tensioner block....or u can use that setup but pull the ten-assy out...ur block is hard on the chain and teeth btw...but it looks alum so ok
hey clean the big nuts/sockets w carb cleaner wen getting on/off...they will slip scar the nuts....and breaker bar will bash you in the head
also use some... lots..med lockyite on the splines/bolt...keeps oil out and will keep tight
