Another SE 103 build question

Getting ready to do a 103 Stage II on my '07 Road Glide (with 255's), and had a head question.

I've got a pair of CVO 103 heads from a SE Fat Boy, and am curious where the compression will wind up using these heads over my OE '07 heads. I'd rather use them if for nothing else than the "Screamin' Eagle 103" script in the sides of them (yeah, kind of dumb, but that's what I want). I'm not looking for a HP monster, just good usable power from 2K-4.5K (highway range).

Anything the resident builders can offer up, tech wise? (use CR's, etc.) I'm doing the work myself, and would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Anyone....?

Same heads we have worked with several times.
Combined with the matching pistons, and a Wood 6 or 6H and that will rip.

Yup, Scott @ Hillside has done the machine work on 2 of those for me. Bother are great running machines!

These pistons

Along with his headwork and the cams Scott mentioned in the previous post will rip!

Thanks for the replies... but I already have the SE stuff, so I guess my question is what will the compression ratio wind up at using the flattops in the SE kit?

As I look at the HP/TQ using the SE255's, the powerband is right where I'd like it (I rarely go over 4500, but I'm concerned with hot start and or pinging problems. The SE book states a 10-1 CR with the factory heads, and I do not know the specs of the CVO 103 heads.

Have the heads cc'd. Use the Big Boyz calculator. I've read that those haeds have a large combustion chamber (93-95cc's) so you may need to mill them or run a domed piston to get the cr where you need for those cams. If your going to be over 10:1, install releases.

From what I can gather.. the CVO 103 heads are basically the same as the 103+ heads, except for the valve sizes (103+ having larger valves) and machined for compression releases... is this correct?

The 103+ heads are advertised as having 98cc chambers, which would make a flattop build low compression, being that the stock compression ratio for the '06 CVO 103 is 8.6 to 1. I have the original CVO pistons that came with the heads, and when I matched them up to the SE 103 pistons that came with the BB kit, they look to be the same pistons. So how much can you mill off the heads to bring the compression up to say 9.5 to 1?

Sorry to :beatdh: but I haven't found any other info.

I'm doing it myself... I'll need a decent PC tuner when i'm finished, though

Sell those S/E heads on eBay and have your stock heads worked over buy a good engine builder.
if you tell who ever is doing the head work what parts your using, if he's good he can get you what ever compression ratio you want (to an extent) and should only cost you between 500 to 700 depending on who dose the head work.
that should include new valves, springs, and what ever machine work that needs done.

If your in florida your lucky you have have john sachs here in fortlauderdale who is one of the best head porter around, and as for tunning you have Doc, who is in leesburg. If you need there #s send me a PM and Ill give you both there #s, your in excellent hands with both of them.

Osolow has given you good advise. Unless you are willing to go with custom pistons and have the quench set up properly for those heads, sell them and invest the money in the stock heads and a good head porter. You will be dollars and HP ahead of the game.

FWIW, with those cams (SE255) you don't need to spend a bunch of money on big head work. Clean up, set the chamber size and compression releases if you'd like. $300 to $400 should be about right.

i agree with ceraaa42! I have a 103 stage 2 kit in my 07.The heads were cleaned up (STOCK OEM).compression releases, decked pistons to cylinder (set to zero),The idea of the cam(2550 IS LOW END. Not to much above 5k rpms.I changed my motor drive gear to 30 tooth and did away with compansator and get 40+ mpg @3K RPM @7OMPH.Its fun and i enjoy the NO GEAR DROP passing. All this with flat top SE pistons(NO WARM UP NEEDED).OH YA pay pay for the releases!!!!!!!!!!! SAVE your starter,EASY starts,COLD,WARM,HOT@any alt.
