I posted yesterday about adjusting tappets(lifters) and pushrods. With front cylinder at tdc I went 3 turns in but lifters never bled down and were able to spin. I backed off to 2 1/2 turnd and they bled down and were able to spin. Did the rear cylinder and buttoned everything up. When started, had a lot of oil blowin out of vent tube hangin out the bottom. This motor is a 1979 shovelhead AMF bored and stroked to 96ci. The pushrods and lifters are Velvet Touch. I never heard of them and not to many people i`ve talked to have heard of them either. Any suggestions? Before the motor was built it had the same set up as far as the pushrods and lifters and the motor ran good but since this motor is goin into a bobber I wanted it little bigger and stronger.

Push rod adjustment and oil coming out of the breather tube have no connection with each other. Sounds to me you have lifters done correct or you would have lots of push rod noise. If your compression test show good, start looking at the common oil blowby causes sumping, oil pump funcion, blockage, lines crossed ect. ect. ect. Same is true for any brand of lifter

pushrods adjusted correctly now another problem

I adjusted the pushrods by counting the threads per inch and multiplying by .6. The Shovel runs good but i`m still having a problem when I crack the throttle from an idle, I get flames just visible coming from the ends of the drag pipes. This motor was punched out from 80ci to 96ci with headwork done etc... whyt is it doing this?

Raw gas in the exhaust. It could be a combination of things. Cam timing, amount of fuel, ignition timing or misfiring just to name a few. Drag pipes don't help and may be amplifying the perceived problem, with mufflers it might not be something you would notice or may sound normal.

I know for a fact that if you have the pushrods too tight you will get oil blowing out the breather. Just did a 95" kit on a 02 ultra and assumed it had s/e push rods, adj them 2 1/2 turns and I had no power and blew 3 qts of oil out in about 3 miles, Went back and adjusted them 1 turn and everything is great. I am not sure what kind of push rods they are but the Harley store put them and 203 cams in about 2 years ago.
