I'm planning a Sturgis run from San Diego this summer. From there, I plan to ride on to Massachusetts, then down to Texas, and back to San Diego. I figure about 10,000 (+/-) miles all together, on the trip.
My bike:
2006 Road Glide has 52,000 miles on it now, & probably a couple thousand more, before I leave on this run in July. I'm an AMSOIL Dealer, and have been using AMSOIL MCV-20W50 since I bought the bike in '08, with 9,200 miles on it. The bike had been in the rental fleet of Beartooth Harley, in Billings, MT previous to my purchasing it. It still has the the stock spring cam chain adjusters. I pulled the exhaust & inspection cover to visually check the adjusters at 40,000 & again at 50,000 miles, (+/-) [see attached photo links] and they appeared OK to me. Very little wear. In fact, there appeared to be almost no change between the 40,000 mile, & 50,000 mile inspection.
I am happy with the bikes performance, and am not planning to do a cam, or other performance upgrades any time soon. I don't want to fix it, if it ain't broke. (or at least badly bent)
My question is this: Should I really be worried about failure here, and is the upgrade worth the cost, when the adjusters appear to still be OK?
Thanks in advance.
