98"/SE Touring/True Duals

I'm currently running V&H True Duals with SE Touring mufflers on my 88" stage 1 05 Eglide. How much of a performance hit am I going to take If I use this same exhaust with my soon to be (GMR) 98"/heads/37g cams build?

Thanks,
Rick

I beleive I had the same exhaust set up as you. I had the V&H true duals and the SE slash down mufflers. I had engine work done and was the told that the exhaust I had would really hurt the performance. The dyno run with that set up I was at 82 hp. I changed the exhaust and nothing else and the hp went up to 102hp.The new exhaust was a D&D fat cat 2 into 1.

WOW! What a difference. Maybe I'm going to have to rethink this exhaust. I was trying to keep the sound down a little with the SE Touring muffs but maybe I'm choking things a bit too much. I'd like to keep the duals, maybe it would help if I swapped out the mufflers. I was giving some consideration to the Fullsac stock recores. Maybe I'll have to go back to the stock head pipe or maybe a 2-1. I can't see spending the bucks on the 98" just to lose a sizeable part of the gain because of the pipes.

20 HP from just a pipe change?

Wow, I'm impressed. :)
There is a dyno of a 98 that is posted here. I cannot repost it, as it will not let me, but I will say peak numbers are not a very good way to compare builds unless you are building a bike for dyno shoot outs. Look at the tq curve, verse's where you ride, that will tell you more than peak numbers. I have seen 88 inch make 125hp and 109 tq but when you see the sheet ther peak numbers are way up there.

Just my 2 cents worth.

They did say that the mufflers were the major problem of the set up.If I would have gone with a more flow through muffler the numbers would have come up some. I figured why not let the engine work as good as it can.
So what's going to hurt me more, the mufflers or the dual head pipes?

Thanks,
Rick
I'm no expert, but I would say the mufflers are whats takeing the most performance away followed by the duals. With the duals your not getting the scavenging effect.
Just get a D&D FatCat, RB-LSR, or a V&H proPipe (all 2into1's) and you'll be happy, they look great and all are top performers!

I've been kicking around the FatCat. How loud is it compared to the V&H?

Thanks,
Rick
I don't really know, the V&H is what I have and it seemed tame with my stage1 88" but now that I have a built 95" it barks pretty loud when you nail it!
One of the pluses of the RB is that each head pipe has a bung for an o2 sensor which could come in handy down the road....
I love the look, sound and performance of my ProPipe.....
So what if you use some anti-reversion cones on the "true duals"? Would that help with his torque? If you want O2 bungs there is also www.hackerpipes.com that makes pipes and mufflers. They do headers in chrome, stainless and ceramic coating. Mufflers in chrome and stainless with different core sizes available. Then if you want re-cores there is a guy in Michigan goes by the name of bobvic2 on ebay. He does really good work.
