Greetings to all! This is my first post so hopefully I have not violated any rules or regulations. After a lot of research and many hours reviewing this forum, I have recently completed a 95 build on my 2002 Nightrain. Just thought I would share my results in hopes it may help others in the future. The biggest lesson I learned from this experience is to open a good line of communication with your builder and whom ever you choose to complete the head work.

My build consist Andrews 37 cams, SE hydraulic cam plate and oil pump, SE flattop cast pistons, bored stock cylinders, head work by Dewey Heads (9.8-1 compression), Mikuni 42 carb, SE intake, SE breather kit, Zippers Thunder Bolt ignition, and the most recent addition, a D&D Fat Cat (previously ran V&H Big Shots/shorts). Work was completed by the local HD dealer. The end result, after the recent addition of the D&D, 94 HP & 100 TQ.

A Dyno was completed with the V&H Big Shots and after the D&D install. The D&D gained HP & TQ over the V&H.

So,when you say you have 9.8:1 compression with flat top pistons, does that mean you milled the heads? And if so,how much did you take off? I just changed my thunderheader to a patriot defender 2-1,but haven't had a chance to dyno it yet.My 95" set up is also alot like yours, but I chose a woods tw6 cam.I changed from a se44 to a mikuni 42 and added 1.7 rocker arms.Went from 90hp/102tq to 92hp/112tq,really fun to ride. Also changed gearing 3.37 from 3.15.

I believe the heads were milled to achieve the 9.8-1. Dewey Heads did all the work. I believe a larger intake and stock exhaust valve size. I would have to review the work order to confirm all the details.

95" upgrade

Being the cheap fellow Iam and preferring to do things myself, I had the cylinders of my 88 rebored to 95". I fitted 10.2/1 cast pistons from Harley. Next on the list was porting the heads, which I did myself after studying everything I could find on the subject for over a year. I used a Crane 316 cam 510 lift, 242/252 duration with stock valves/ springs and the SE adjustable ecm that was the rage at the time (2003). With a 42mm Mikuni and a V&H pro pipe, she dynoed a t 92.6hp/ 98 ft lbs of torque.
The torque band went from 90 @ 2500 to 98 by 3100, then stayed there to over 6000rpm, dropping to 95 again at the 6500rpm limiter. Hwy mileage dropped by 2, to 48 at 75 mph. :woohoo:
Until the HP bug really got my ass, I was more than happy with this combo for 2 yrs, then I ruined it by changing everything to install a Magna Charger Supercharger. Thats another story of Excess fun for another day. windwolf :cya:
