Greetings from the UK, particularly to anyone in St L. or NYC.

The black coating on the forward section of the crank-case on my FLSTFI's motor (the area right in the firing line of the front tyre (below the voltage regulator)) has started to de-laminate. There is an area about 4 inches square where the coating has come off altogether and round the edge of this the coating is lifting from the aluminium underneath. The flakes are brittle.

The bike is NEVER ridden when there is salt on the road and almost never in the rain.

I need to stop this process now, before getting into the UK riding season. Can anyone suggest a treatment that will both cover and protect the bald patch, and stop it spreading further? Crucially, whatever I do must not interfere with the appearence of the engine - matt black.

Your advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Is it still under warranty?. If so go back to your dealer, my mate did and got new crankcases. Bonus bit is you get a free service.
