I’ve tried searching but haven’t found an answer. I’m new to FXRs and want to know if I find a 41 or 49 mm front end with narrow glide triple trees would it be a simple swap or are there other considerations? Or are there better ways to upgrade the front end of an old evo? Maybe Japanese take offs from some other bike? Thanks for any information.

I would go for a full Emulator kit, with the appropriate springs. You don't have to reengineer the whole front end. I used the Race Tech Gold Valve Cartridge Emulator kit. My 2K Lowrider has 39 mm forks too.

49mm fork installs on FXRs is pretty common. There is no 'kit'. You will have to piece together trees from one model and legs from another model. Seems complicated but is much easier than adapting a set of inverted forks from a crotch rocket.

For your FXR you probably want a set of trees without any rake, and a set of legs with mounts for two calipers. Parts are readily available on ebay, but again, you will have to source the trees and legs separately.

Best of luck.

A simple, relatively inexpensive way is to change to progressive rate fork springs. They make an amazing difference over the stock ones. After I switched to Progressive fork springs and Progressive 412 rear shocks my '92 FXRS with 39mm forks handled and rode like a different bike.

Honestly,, take fron forks apart, replace the bushings and seals.. use progressive springs, as mentioned above,, with emulators, and 20 or 30 weight synthetic fluid..
You will be very happy..
As to the rear shocks,, progressives are way over rated, and over priced for what you get... I have Koni full adjustable on my fxrs,,, it handles fabulously.. on those old junk (not), 35mm forks... ohlins are very good..
I wish. You the best in whatever you decideto do,, after all this is an internet forum, taking anyone's advice, is not advisable...
