My 2002 FXDX is coming to the 40.000 miles service. I had almost no problems with the bike and I'm following the ordinary service. Should replace fork oil, and repack the swingarm bearing. Do someone have experience with life of the rear belt and clutch plates. Anything else i should be aware off ? How many miles can I expect from the engine (I've heard 100.000 miles)

Cam tension shoes

Replaced my cam tension shoes 10.000 miles ago when I got at big bore kit. No problems with the shoes at that time, but changed them anyway.
Has read a lot about the tensioners and are leaning to the idea, that differences of the chain may have something to do with the wear. I do think that the wear on the images is what you can await after 30.000 miles.

tguil how do I see that the motor mounts need to be replaced ?. Swingarm bushing and bearing are on the maintainance plan, so they will be lubed.

I noticed slight rattle from time to time. When the tech checked it out, he found it was bad mounts. It's a common problem with Dynas. Do a search on this forum. There is more information.

Actually motor mounts (front and rear isolators) should be replaced every 20-25K. I wouldn't put that off regardless of whether or not you feel something.

I do a great deal of PM and much of what I do most folks don't. Is what I do necessary? Maybe not but it doesn't hurt. PM is a lot different that having to fix crap. I hate having to actually "work" on a motorcyle so I do preventive maintenance to prevent serious wrenching. I do some things every 5, 10, and 20K miles. I would at 40K (have) replace the front fork seals, neck bearings, swing arm bearing/bushing, motor mounts, top engine stabilizer, front & rear brake pads and rotors, primary chain, wheel bearings, clutch cable, clutch cable, clutch cable, clutch cable, check and adjust spokes, oh and did I say clutch cable?

I keep my own record of what I do every year. In Spring I review everything I've done just in case. But normally when Spring comes I don't have to do anything except kick her over...o.k. "push the button".

Peace

Jimmy you sound like my type of guy. Do the same thing my self. Changes the parts before it breaks. Changed my throttle cables last year, and has ordered a clutch cable already. Wheel bearing should be good for 100.000 miles, I had read somewhere. Pads are changed from time to time and the rotors only have around 20.000 miles on them (Floating). Will look into the bearings and the motor mounts. Don't think I have a problem with the primary chain, I check it once every year and there has been no change there.
