They make a big difference, I have them on my fxr. I also put gold valves etc all at the same time which made it a bit of a b*tch to put back together.
They can take out that softness up top but don't just crank them down all the way if you run them. You want them to stiffen up that soft slack up top but not be so stiff you're not compressing at all unless hard braking.
I think they are only $100 or so for the set hell you can find them used for half that some times.
Id recommend them if you tend to ride more on the hard/aggressive side and like or want the feel of the road, but if you just cruise and like the soft smooth over bumps type ride I would say they aren't for you.
