Well, I hate to say it, but I am selling my VRSC.

The bike was delivered in March and I had the dealer add a touring windshield, sundowner seat, nerf bars, leather saddle bags, custom mirrors, Samson exhaust, PowerCommander module, Screamin Eagle air cleaner, siren, luggage rack. I'll even throw in a new Craftsmen motorcyce jack.

The bike has two thousand miles on it and runs like a dream!

If interested, send me an e-mail at sslivin at hotmail dot com.

i had a moment of weakness a few weeks ago and needed to sell one of my bikes. i was upside down on what i owed on my deuce, so reluctantly i put my rod in traderonline and a local publication. now, granted my bike has more miles than many(14,000). i have 2k worth of extras and it looks and rides new. so in a panic, i listed it for 15 thousand bucks. i was really blown away, when i got only 2 calls on it and they were only tire kickers. no one even made me a serious offer.
i hate to think that these bikes are not holding their value. i went thru the same deal with my buell. please dont tell me these bikes are going to be another buell. i like the bike very much, which is good, because it looks like i will own it for a long time.

werewulf, it will probably bring about 13K now and about 13K in 4 years if it is an '02 and in very good shape, if the EPA gets its way and inflation remains about the same.

I just looked in the latest Hap Jones blue book for motorcycles. I think the 2002 V-Rods are listed for something like ~$15,000.00 retail.

This made me realize that I'm probably one of the last people to pay over list for the bike (I paid $1500 over list, the $1500 includes setup and shipping). Still, I'm probably looking at about $3500.00 in depreciation in the first year, or 17%, which isn't bad at all.

But hey, it's a luxury toy, not an investment.

i paid 18900$ for mine, then put 2k worth of extras on it. i got mine last november and it was the first one on the street in the area. that was a super price at the time. everyone else was getting 25 to 28k for them. i was offered 5k to let another bloke have mine, but i wanted it real bad. well, i hate to whine, but i should have taken it. its a super bike and has never given me one moments problem, but it looks like it isnt holding its value as well as other harleys. im still snake bit over my x-1 buell i had. i kept it 8 months and couldnt give it away. i will probably end up keeping the rod and customizing it. i cant do too much though, because i have a 4 year warranty on it. tilleys told me that they are not taking used harleys on trade, due to the economy being so bad. this probably has something to do with the v-rods value.

NC/SC seems to be a bad area for Vrods i have noticed since they came out they have started piling up at the dealers here. One little dealer here has yet to sell the first on they put on their floor(as of my last vistit.....Been a couple months). Have seen several new ones at msrp or lower around.

Bikenomics 101

Mid-October is the time of year when a lot of guys start putting away their bikes for the winter, and a certain percentage of them think its a good time to save on storage, insurance, etc. by putting them up for sale. At the same time, a lot fewer guys are out there looking for a bike to ride, since in most parts of the country the weather is getting colder and the days are a lot shorter.

Increased supply plus reduced demand leads to lower prices.

If you can wait until springtime to sell your sled, I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot more interest and probably will be able to command a better price.

Think the realtively low production on this bike and the novilty of the first production year and 100th anniversary models, will help resale value in the long run.

But I've owned some high performance machines in the past and gotten burned on the resale side. Of note was a 1990 Z51 Corvette. Which, for those who arn't familiar, was the street version of road race model as opposed to the ZR1. $37,000 retail. $25,000 three years later.
1996 GMC Sonoma ZR2, 5spd, $21,000 new, three years later $11,000!

Sometimes high performance doesn't equate to high resale, cause JQ public thinks we beat the s##t out of these machines! Little do they now that we also take alot better care of them when we're not out "racing around".

Why would anyone buy a bike like a V-Rod and then worry about the re-sale value? Keep the bike and enjoy it. I plan to pass mine on to my son when he's old enough. Until then I'm going to ride it and admire it. I think it's the nicest bike available.

I've never really worried about the resale value of any bike that I've ever bought. I know a few guys who dont ride their bikes for fear of putting too many miles on them and lowering the value. LoL. Why buy the f*cking thing then ? I buy em to ride.

That being said, look at every other 1st year Harley. Whether it be knuckle, pan, shovel, block, or whatever. Or 1st year Fatboy. Historically, 1st year bikes are worth more after time goes by.

If you bought it to ride, then who cares about the resale. If you bought it for investment or your tired of riding it or whatever, then pay that sucker off and stash it. In 10, 15, 20 years from now you cant tell me that Harley's first year ever watercooled bike wont be worth anything.

Man I could not imagine getting rid of my waterhog!! I still don't understand people that buy expensive toys, play with them, and lose interest fifteen minutes later!

Re-sale?? Yeah that's just what I'm thinking of when I'm plunking down my hard earned cash for a $19k motorcycle, NOT!

I wonder why they dont sell as well on the East Coast ? They are selling the sh*t out of them around here. I paid 17,500 for mine. Of course I chose to buy a brand new 02 instead of an 03. They wanted more for those. At the time I bought mine only 1 dealer out of 6 that I called in my area had an 02. Another dealer had two 03's and he wanted 19,800 and 21,000 for those.

You guys might consider it strange, but I had my heart set on a first year bike anyway. Plus I like the Harley Davidson lettering a lot better than the little medallion they stuck on em this year.

I still get a laugh out of that resale sh*t. If you want to invest your money I suggest you go see a banker or broker, not a Harley dealer. LoL

Fugly, You got it. I paid 17.5K for my '02. Find the book : 100 Years of Harley Davidson by Willie G. Davidson. There ain't no '03 VRSCA in there, only the '02.

im sure he wont have any problem getting 38k bucks for his, when i couldnt get 15k for mine with the same equipment. i like the part where he said that they are retailing for 30k, but you cant find one. might have been true a year ago this time!

JMS that is typical I think, I just purchased an anniversary shirt that had a pic of a 02 not a 03. Gota love it, it's a 99 year shirt not a 100.

As for resale there is a V-Rod now on eBay for mid $12K, but it has 7100 miles, good buy for someone:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871237489

But I won't be trading mine at any time took her out yesterday and still get all kinds of thumbs up and drivers yelling "Veeee Rod". And when I park it I always get at least 3-4 people coming up to it to look at it. Yesterday stop by a fast food place to grab a bit and saw people standing up in the place as I left to get a last look at it.

But if you want to sell your Duce I know of a guy whos looking for one, just PM me and I'll see if I can't contact him for you.
