??? hot to the tach is the "white wire side" of the coil... triggers... is the opposite side.

Edit; A tach does not really track RPM... it tracks Triggers... or ignition events of the Ignition system...
so... counting triggers, and the rate of their occurance...= RPM... depending how many ignition events occur per revolution of the engine...of course..
Jut wire the +12v to the tach to the side of the coil with the white wire... and the "signal/trigger" side of the tach to the opposite side... all good...
