I'm looking for a nice set of 16" apes for my RK Custom... I really like the look of the "thick" style bars, and I found this set...

they are 1 1/2" diameter with a 16" rise. Everything I've seen on them says they require a special riser clap to accept the 1 1/2" , but I cant seem to locate and riser / clamps for roadkings..

I guess my question is... Has anyone used fat bars like this on thier RK? any advice or tips?

Dan-

You need a 1 piece clamp for your bars. You can pick one up at your local harley shop or Indy shop. The stock bar clamps are a two piece system.
I have 1 1/4 inch bars from Wild1inc.com They are not apes bit they are fat bars. You may want to check out Wild1 as they are very popular and they are excellent bars.

Clean look and you can run your wires inside the bars. Might as well get some Steel braided lines as well since you will have to buy new ones to fit.

I saw a Road King Custom with 13" apes and to me, it was the perfect size. Carlini makes 13", 16", and 18" apes... all 1 1/2". The guy had removed the wind deflector and switched to the RK Classic trim. I don't know if that was necessary for the 1 1/2".

If you're going to go 1 and 1/2" bars, Carlini is the way to go. You have to call them though as they don't seem to answer emails very fast. I had their apes on my bike but had to change because of a shoulder injury. They are the best I've ever seen!! Just my -2$en#e-

I have 1.5" 18 apes on my RK classic. They are tolemar bars and clamp. They arent reduced to 1" at the clamps, only at the hand controls. I really like them. I had some cheap 1" 16s before and bent them, the tolemars are about 2 to 3 times the weight of the 1"ers. I recommend solid bushings or very hard poly bushings the stockers do not work well with apes. hey tucos thanks for the info... what did you end up doing with your cables? I suspect I will have to get longer ones, and I plan on going to steel braided lines at the sametime.... what about you?

I went with +6 braided cables all around for the 16s and had to change to a +10 clutch for the 18s. I need a +10 brake but its expensive and this one works just alittle tight. First pic is 1.5 x 18, second is 1" x 16.
