I doubt if anyone every has used a dial indicator to measure how much the plug is sticking out. Just put the plug back in till it looks like it is sticking out about as far as it was when you took it out. It is better to leave it out a little far than to screw it in too far. You can use teflon dope or tape if you choose. I use nothing and just screw the plug back in. No leaks in the past 6 years.

I got some teflon locktite thats is useable with oil. Might be 565 will take a look. Either way I don't overly worry. Its in a spot you can keep an eye on.

Just use a set of feeler guages by setting them .16 beside the plug and feel if they are flush. Close enough for government work!
