I guess it depends what you mean by loud. I have Screamin Eagle Street Cannons on my 14 Limited and love them. They have a good rumble and a bit of bark when I lean on the throttle. Saw a guy with Reinharts on his bike and I thought they were too loud for me. They did sound nice though. Straight pipes are way too loud. Just my opinion.

Oakers3 wants to know Dino or Syn?
In traffic I'm always one gear lower so people hear me because they certainly aren't looking for me or seeing me. But I wear ear plugs everywhere I ride. 30 min at 60 mph is enough to cause permanent ear damage, head gear on or not. Its the wind noise that causes it.
I have constant ringing in my ears that wakes me up at 5-530 am every morning. Dreams, what are those? Haven't remembered a dream in decades. It was being close to speakers at MSG in NYC for concerts. Gunfire didn't help any.

I've been riding over 50 years. Most of my bikes had loud pipes. I'm paying for it now. Hearing aids are WAY more expensive than loud mufflers.

I once heard or maybe I should say didn't hear a RK with stock pipes. Some guys from another forum came up from SC to ride with me. He was called Old Coot.

I have lived in SE NC since 89 and that one RK or Goldwings are the quietest bikes here. Every bike around here has some kind of bark. My GW had a good sound when I got Jardine pipes.

My Heritage has vh longshots, quite loud they are, but I am not obnoxious when in towns. Just because I like the sound dosen't mean everyone likes it.

Loud for long distance in the saddle is not as great as everyone thinks.

Anyone got any data links to back up the popular saying?

Some are nice, but I agree, not for me and long distance.
Most of the time on rides I get in the bock so I don't have to hear them. I have S&S SPO mufflers with their Power Headers. I like them!

My personal opinion, I like pipes that are a little loud, but have a nice tone. Straight pipes are way to loud.

Yes they are. Try sleeping in a campsite during Cherokee bike week. I imagine it is hard to sell a piece of land for a house on the Tail of the Dragon road.

I rented a condo at Myrtle Beach bike week in '14. We were a mile away from business 17 and could still hear the idiots racking their pipes.

Yes indeed. Loud pipes save live. Like air horns on semi trucks and trains. We gotta let them know we are there.

My wife says she can hear me to Whiteville, 12 miles away. Isn't that great?

The stock pipes on my ultra made it sound like an import. I changed out to the Bassini X crossover head pipes with Crusher Tridents with the mellow baffles. The Crushers gives it a low rumble at low throttle position. The new cams gives it a lope at idle and when I open the throttle on the hwy it all wakes up. The Crushers don't drone me to sleep or hurt my ears on the road. I hate wearing ear plugs. One thing I noticed was before I got a good tune in the bike, even the mellow Crushers would hurt my ears. Once the tune was correct, no more pain.

I live on a main road to the camp grounds and lodges here on the lake. Some of the bikes that come down the street are so loud they sound stupid.

In Texas you get no inspection certificate without baffles, and no registration without an inspection. So, a lot of the guys save factory mufflers to put on for inspection.

I went to a funeral for a vet this weekend. Part of the police escort was a j a p bike that looked almost like a crotch rocket. It sounded like it was powered by Singer.

My Rineharts sound nice and have a bit of a bark to them. I just use common sense when riding around town or in a subdivision. At my age I ain't got nothing to prove to anybody.
