Cool

I just saw where the last person alive that worked on carving out Mt Rushmore just turned like 98. Lone survivor.
Looks like a nice trip.

We camped out soon after leaving Crazy Horse and then next day took off for Devil's Tower which was neat. had lunch there and it was good. just took our time riding through the mountains and going over one pass on way to Yellowstone. We camped out in Shoshone National Forest in the Wapati Campgrounds. had all the basics, water and a toliet with paper provided. how nice was that.

just thought i would show my favorite gas station from KS to Wy. and starting in Wy we could get gas not the ethanol blend. bike ran great and got way better gas milage like from 37 to 39 to a high of 52 in the mountains. i know some of this was due to lower speeds but that is a significant increase. unfortunately as we left Wy and upper UT we left the good gas and had to go back to blend.

got up early the next day and headed out to Yellowstone. was a quick trip as the camp grounds were right there. toured it tried to go the the Beartooth but got into a snowball fight with the sky in Lamar Valley and had to turn around. the sky won. rode around Yellowstone then headed out south. we came in the east entrance and left the south entrance. i know you can't make it out but all those black dots in the second photo are buffalo, about a herd of 300. they were in Lamar Valley. one suggestion if you go and i plan on going again go in September or October when school is in. way too many people. traffic jams just to take a photo of a lone buffalo.

I'm thinking retirement will be great, especially since the wife isn't old enough to retire yet!!
retirement is great! been retired for a year now and saved up for this trip for years saving my coins. saved up $575 worth. that about paid for the gas. don't have the final bill yet but close.

ended up just south of Jackson, Wy. (Jackson Hole). stayed on the banks of the Snake River in a KOA. our camp site was the last available which was a theme of our trip(we were way lucky always found a site only once was turned away). The platforms we slept on were made by guides for the river runs. made for a nice clean area for out tents. sorry for the upside down photo not sure how that happened.

now where was i, oh yes just south of Jackson, Wy. the Snake River was running very full and that made for a great photo. headed South and crossed over into Utah. when all the way to the bottom of Utah and visited its canyons of the Colorado River. The Wrangler Cafe had the best breakfast on the whole trip. had my hot tea, great eggs and bacon with good hash browns (the west does not know grits). went by Flaming Gorge which had nice views. was able to ride over the Dam which was neat nice views but terrible roads. then camped out in a Bureau of Land Management campground. had the necessary bathroom, wall with no roof but tissue provided. the next morning went to the Arches area but didn't get to the end as was low on fuel.

here are the views from the BLM campground. non paved to get to our camp site but not too bad on the harley. before we reached out camp we were able to ride along the Colorado River in Utah. completely different from AZ where everything is on the rim of the canyon. this is down on the bottom with the river. much different views.

after leaving the BLM camp site we went to see the Arches and then headed on South. saw an arch outside of the park. plus the photo with the three guys in stone looked like to me to be three priests headed down the road. the last two photos were taken before the arches they are the Colorado River Canyon from above on the way to the Arches.

after the arches went down thru Monument Valley but didn't take any photos as it was way hot. stopped at 4 corners which ironically has been sold to the Navajo Nation. we went there in 1977 and the only thing there was the circle surrounding the marker. now it is surronded with stone kiosks for use by local artist to sell their art. From there left as a storm was headed our way. stopped along the way to let the rain get ahead of us then rode to Cortez, Co. waited there for the rain to get ahead of us again and then into Durango for our last camp in the mountains. went into Lubbock, Tx. and that is the last of the photos. from Lubbock headed to Dallas to see my best friend. stayed with him a couple of hours then off to Shreveport to stay with my sister, who i have not visited in 30 years. (now we have seen each other in that time and chat every week via phone). ah a night on a mattress then home. the reason we didn't take any photos we were headed home with a single minded purpose.

on the way to Lubbock we went over Wolf Creek Pass, Co. obtained our highest altitude, 10857 ft. had snow on the ground but the temperature was nice. going through N.M. went by the highest extinct Volcano, Sierra Grande. saw other extinct volcanoes on the way to Lubbock. one even had a road to the top but we didn't stop.
