Shovelhead plus 0.080" overbore

Hi guys,
Gonna bore early shovel jugs for 080 over. Is that safe? As the cylinder wall at the spigot will be 0.080". Believe that this is the last repair size...

80 over was pretty common back in the day.

People used to talk about them cracking, but I never saw one do it.

Just to be clear, those 80 over builds were not stepped on. They were 7.0:1 stock builds. Usually people trying to use jugs someone else discarded when .060 wore out.

NO! , Material gets real thin and porous at the root of the cooling fins. I've seen they break at .050 over!

Later 1980 and later 80 Cu.In jugs are already .060 over a 74 , and will take .020 more.

S&S makes jugs of a much stronger cast ductile iron. They ain't cheap , but they won't break!

Stay away from the aftermarket Taiwanese jugs.
