The Next Corvette

It looks like the new Corvette is finally gonna be mid-engined. But a guy at work says it also will be automatic transmission only, too. WTF

If you look around not many cars are available with a manual transmission anymore.. I "think" Ferrari and Porsche are even going more "Automatic"...Sad.... I recently read an article that stated the best theft deterrent device (in a car) is a Manual Transmission, as most of our "younger" people are unable or incapable of driving a manual transmission vehicle.....

I was looking at a new Mustang convertible recently, one of the reasons was a manual transmission is still offered... ALL of the mustangs in stock at local dealers ( 100 mile radius) I look at online are automatics.... Sucks.....
Pretty sad when a mid engine Corvette is automatic only..

They all have "cell phone" chargers, blue tooth devices...…

the technology in automatics is amazing nowadays...manuals are fun for awhile...then they're not.....the 10 speed auto in the ZL1 Camaro is crazy efficient and fun....you wouldn't miss the manual plus the autos are faster....trust me on this.

Ya the mules have been out and about for a while. One broke down out west at a gas station, and had to roll out on a flat bed. I was hoping that people had gotten some photos of the under side, but nothing has surfaced.

Mid engine autotrans at introduction, but that does not mean that a manual might not come later with the larger engines. The larger engines are always a year or two after introduction.

If it's like Ms. Salty's, there ain't much to see on the underside. Just flat sheet metal to keep from disturbing the air.

Granted the car in the pic is only a 6 speed auto, but I thought is was going to be more fun than it is... Paddles on the steering wheel, console shift you can manually shift it a couple of ways, jus t not like having a clutch under foot and a shift ball in your right hand..

I am 64 and grew up in the muscle car era, I miss having a manual... My 67 dodge is an automatic also... Yawn....

I bought my one and only new car in 1978, a Z/28 Camaro. Even then, I had to pay an extra $400 non-reundable deposit to order the 4 speed manual.

The dealer had no standards, didn't want to order any standards, and said he wouldn't be able to sell mine (easily) if I backed out.

I understand all that, but still...

(How about going retro with a PowerGlide?)

That's my hope- a standard to follow.

I'm a year behind you and feel the same way. The Chevy dealer was across the street from my high school. I spent a few lunch hours 'test driving' 1970 models- Z/28s, SS Chevelles, etc. There were lots of 4 speeds involved.

I'm a GM, especially Chevrolet, lifer; but I've developed an appreciation for Chrysler's 50s and (especially) 60s designs.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche etc are all Auto only cars. The Corvette is one of the last to still offer a Manual. The Autos are faster and all have the Paddle shift now. The new Corvette will follow suit and only be Auto with Paddle shifters. They are just plain faster.

I'm with you on that. I have zero interest in manual transmission although I did teach my son how to drive one just so he'd know.

They are kind of fun for about 10 minutes.

They're also moved a little farther from machine to appliance- from Harley to Honda.
