Melty wiring

Anyone know where to get replacement wire plugs for under the tank? Originals look like they were on fire at some point...

...honestly the whole wiring harness is a mess - random stuff spliced in, connector for rear lights is melted too, for some reason..

You might be better off finding a new harness.
Or making it.
On my fxrp the harness was butchered.
From all the lights radio and all the police gear that had been replaced then taken off.
I made a new one.

I use the English and *** style bullet connector.
U need a special crimper for them but they are good
They have two crimp points.
One for the wire and one for the insolation .
They also have clear boots that slide over the connection to make it water proof.

Look on cycle recycle part two web site.
They sell them.
I live close to the store so I just go in and get them .

If you don't find them on the website, let me know.
I can send pics of them and the crimper.

If you can't order them I can go buy some and send them to you

Hey I just checked on the
Cycle recycle part 2 website.

Look under electrical.
Then under connecters.
The ones I use are the first style they show.
They also have all they wiring colors you will need

They also have two three and four pin connectors.

The crimper you need is about 80 bucks on j&p.
But I found mine for 35.
Found it at a local electric shop.
It will do the newer duech connectors 2

Do Not buy a Chiwanese Harness... especially out here on the Farm.... Mice love to Eat the insulation... I hear the Chiwanese use a Soy Product for insulation...and not a Rubber product..IDK but... I know lots of Cheap rubber products that are Not rubber... even cheap floor mats.... our Mice Eat the stuff!!!

I'd rewire it better than stock. Wire, connectors, heatshrink, crimpers, heat gun etc are affordable (I buy bulk via Ebay) and if you roll your own harness you can minimize the number of connectors.

Good plan... but, again ... do dnot use cheap wire... and the original harness, with a bare minimum of Care... lasts 30 and 40 Years... gonna be hard to improve on that... Me thinks..
Much debate about Solder... mostly I won't... the Original system, lasts a very long time indeed...

Had great results for over ten years with Thunderheart system. We use it on all our bikes. Nice clean setup. None ever had any issues. Won't cover fuel injection wiring though

We differ there... I do Not like such systems... much prefer to stay as close as Possible to O.E.
If a Non O.E. unit came to our shop for Electrical troubleshooting... encouraged customer to go elsewhere, or, be prepared to Pay a premium, while we learn new Tricks!!!

Good stuff....am hoping to get away with just replacing the connectors and keeping the OEM wiring. Have found some good weatherproof connectors but they're pretty large and I'm not sure they'll fit under the tank..

I do Not remember that many [nor large] connections under the tank..
In the headlight???? different story... I doubt you could get away with anything larger... but smaller is certainly available...

I sont remember connectors under the tank either marty,,, I believe he is trying to repair his damaged harness with connectors... just an assumption..

if it as big a mess as he says,, Namz will build him a plug and play harness for a fair price,,

it will make a minor mess of the under 5ank harness,,, ll I remember is a drop for the coil wiring harness.. no connectors,,, the white wire in that harness has a tenancy to break internally,,, causing intermittant dying and leading to permanent no run condition,,,, it is easily repaired...

I made a physical note of your rebuilder [Namz]
and I am all too familiar with weaknesses of that damn white wire....LOL
Luckily, I learned long ago how to replace the darn thing Just like OE....Getting where I can de-pin those connectors fairly rapidly...
