Brake light switch pushrod switch plate

I put a new brake light switch in the hand controls and the brake light would just stay on. When I looked why I found that the switch plate that is supposed to hold down the button has a lot of wiggle in it and slides off the button. Is there a way to tighten this down so it doesn't rotate or do I get a new one? The one that is there seems to be able to rotate about half an inch. Every time I line it up with the brake light switch button it moves after one brake pull and brake light stays on.

We fashioned a sort of HomeGrown Extension onto my friends... I ru stock... so, No Problems.. Unless you have excessive slop at the Lever/Perch interface...

Did you check in the housing of the switch and make sure the bracket and/or small V shape "spring" holding the brake button in place is still there? I had a streetglide that the I lost the little V shaped piece of metal that goes behind the button pushing it out of the housing. So I folded up a small piece of a run flier I had laying around nice and tight and ran it that way for a couple years till I opened up the switch housing again and remembered I had applied a "quick" fix haha

there shouldn't be any gap between the switch housing and brake lever clamp so if the brake button is secured in the housing it shouldn't have anywhere to move to.

It's a '85. No slop where they mate up. The plate is stock and looks like a field hockey club. The lever has a piece with a hole that mates up to the plunger. The piece I'm taking about is on the end of the plunger. It has slop in it allowing it to rotate. About .25"-.5", that little bit of rotation is enough to let the arm move off holding down the switch button. Can I tighten this? How is the plate help onto the plunger?

FIXED IT. the plate sits in the lever and the lever was a few mm too wide. All I had to do was put it in a vice to close it a little.
