Bronxhog wants to know Dino or Syn?
My 08 Ultra left me stranded on I-80. Lost all power , bike went into limp mode had to be towed. First year of FBW throttle. This happened under Warranty.

Back in the AMF days, more often than I can recall.

Recently, only when I break something.

FXR2 is reading this now saying WTF is this?
About 2005, when I lived in South Florida, I was in the middle of nowhere inland over towards Lake Okeechobee. Two lane state road. Really hot weather. My FXR2 started intermittently missing, then it got much worse. mI turned around and headed for home but it died and I coasted to a stop on the edge of the SoFla jungle. Nothing and nobody around. Long story short, after about an hour of checking wires, cussing and scratching my head, I got it started and made it home. Ran just fine. I discovered that the stuff covering the tip over kill switch (whatever the proper name for it may be) on my cam position sensor had melted and was dripping out of the hole on the bottom of the nosecone where the wire exits. Replaced it and it's never happened since. But I also got in the habit of stacking some tiny washers in the nosecone cover screws to allow a bit of air to circulate. Then later I got a slotted, vented nosecone cover with marine nylon air filter mesh inside. And I still look in there every so often to make sure nothing's melting.

back in the 70s, I ran out of gas ( no gas gauge) and dumbass me left the reserve on. But back then I always did a heavy pre-ride inspection because you would always find something. I was so into that habit that I still did it for a while on my TC until I realized other than the basics it was a waste of time. since then I blew a belt
twice and had two flats from road debris one belt I knew was damaged the other was high mileage and I was abusing it

Once. I stupidly left the bike's power turned on. Incredibly careless, although I do think it would be nice if HD put a 5 minute timer that automatically shut it off if the engine is not running. Still, it was entirely my fault.

Never had any problems with my new one. My'61 FL broke down on me a few times in the 19 yrs I owned it,it only seemed to quit when it was pouring down rain or below 30 degrees..

Tools don't hardly help anymore. Today's bikes can't be fixed with duct tape and bailing wire! You need hi tech computer gizmos and sensors and such. It would be worth while to have one of those OBD2 readers, if they would work on the bike. Why don't they do that?

Those Twinkie Softail dash panel hinge-covered ignition switches fail ever so often.

Since the 25 K mark I've replaced the '06 Night Train's switch around 3 years or 10K miles, whichever comes first.
That's the only preventive measure I can think of.

Cool

Never stranded. My voltage regulator went south on me but I was only an hour out so I made it home before the battery went dead enough to shut down the fuel injection.

150,000+ miles and the only time I was left on the road was when I ran over a horseshoe nail going through Amish community

My '63 fl,'83 fl and 2001 fl each have scrooged the pooch on me for one reason or another and left me stranded and abandoned. The '83fl was new and bent a rear exhaust valve for no reason. '63 was not stock and the '01 had been in 2 major accidents before i bought it. I was told one.

Its not just a harley thing either. I had to hitch hike home from the ozarks with my '72 yamaha 650 xs once.

200,000+ Miles on HD Since Retired in 2005 Been what would call Stranded Twice My 2004 Heritage Belt Broke even though only had 15,000 Miles on it .. My 2004 Sportster just totally quit because needed a CPK ( Crank Position Sensor ) My 2009 Ultra Classic went into Limp Mode but was running some back roads near home and managed to limp it home at around 20 MPH in 2nd Gear .. When started it the Next Morning it ran fine for the 40 miles to the Dealership and they found bad wires to the ECU and Replaced with Warranty ..

Holey Moley! This could be bad luck to answer this so I'm going to be knocking on wood as I type. When I was in my young twenties I had a '78 Sportster XLH and broke the starter. I resorted to bump starting it. Had a date with a hottie, went to pick her up and the tranny grenaded.
Had to call her and cancel. Had to call friend with truck for help. Not a good night.
You can only abuse a horse for so long before something gives.
My Brit bikes left me stranded more but now that I think about it, it correlates more to youth. More abuse and less maintenance.
