chrt396 wants to know Dino or Syn?
I have been using Amsoil 20-50 in all three holes until a couple of days ago..after hearing that many of you'all use 75-90 in the tranny. I emptied and refilled using the heavier weight gear lube and actally there is a noticable difference in the quiteness of shifting. More of a click-click click instead of the clunk-clang-clunk. Therefore...my impressionable old mind has switched to heavier weight oil in the tranny! See!! You guys are useful afterall!!

Mobil 1 75-90 in tranny Syn 3 in engine and primary. Syn 3 seems to light for tranny. It shifts much better with the Mobil 1.

gdkenoyer wants to know where he is and how he got here
Found this over on BobIsTheOilGuy. AMSOIL put together a nice study on MC Oils. Nothing really new or amazing, just a nice compilation of various tests on a pretty broad range of oils.

No big surprise but AMSOIL came in first, good stuff anyhow...

You can find it on the AMSOIL site here.

I can put the Amsoil on your doorstep cheaper than you can buy it locally. Keep in mind that a local dealer has to pay for shipping and then ad it to the price like every business does in the world. A loaf of bread has freight charges built into the price.

You can't beat the price and service for Amsoil from George Douglas...2 case delivered in 2 working days...
after 2000 miles using HD dino, Amsoil MCV 20w-50 in crank/pri., severe gear in trans.
the severe gear eliminates the clunk.

Can't get Vernors in NH...I have to bring it home when I travel, or ask others to bring it to me. Good stuff, it is!

Red02FXST wants to know Dino or Syn?
I have an 02 FXST with 16000 miles. Used AMOIL in all 3 holes
since 800 miles at the first service. Dealer installed AMSOIL for
me as I provided the Oil.

I have noticed too, the Amsoil runs cooler ( average 190 to 250)
than other oils I have seen.
I rode 911 ride in NYC last year, Holland tunnel, New York city
traffic and oil temp gage in tank read 250. still no ping or heat
problems.

Titan1958 wants to know Dino or Syn?
Delo 15-40

Having a shared sump, seems like it's a really good idea to change often for viscosity-breakdown as well as clutch/transmission particle reasons. The HDEO 15-40's sure seem to hold viscosity well, and they are very inexpensive. If I currently had a separate sump engine, I'd run a synthetic in both engine and transmission, and THEN go for longer change intervals.

Motorcycles that use one sump for everything such as metric bikes, operate fine with one oil doing the job for the clutch, tranny, and the crankcase. You would think that it would become contaminated more quickly, but experience proves otherwise. I have done a lot of testing over the last 25 years in all kinds of bikes by sending used oil to labs to see how it looks. I have had Goldwings run up to 25,000 miles on the same Amsoil with normal wear and the oil suitable for continued use. My testing has shown that most motorcycle oils do lose some of their viscosity through shearing forces and etc. though.
