My standard answer

By doing this now, I will greatly reduce my post count and hopefully free up masive amounts of bandwidth. I give you :

Use any good oil or SYN, change at regular intervals, use the stock (or premium) filter, stock oil pump, and an oil cooler if you live south of the Mason Dixon.
And, YES Syn 3 (if that’s your choice) works great in all 3 holes

This is my standard answer to any and all oil threads

No. Sorry. The oil cooler only reduced the oil temperature 17 degrees while useing HD oil, non synthetic. I removed the oil cooler, added a good synthetic and the temperature was reduced 22 degrees.

So in the South, just use a good synthetic and save the money for the oil cooler to buy some other widgit.

No, sorry again, With Syn3 and an oil cooler, my temps dropped 40 degrees, from the 260's to the 220's. I'll take engine protection over "widgets" any time.

My oil temperature dropped from 250-60, to 200-210 with head work.

SMRider wants to know Dino or Syn?
This is my standard answer to which oil:

Why do we spend thousands more on a motorcycle, thousands on chrome and other goodies trying to make it "our bike", a couple hundred to have the best tires, a few hundred to thousands to get more HP, spend countless hours cleaning and polishing our bikes and then, cry because the few dollars extra to buy a quality oil and filter that is proven to make our bikes, run smoother, have a lower operating temp, create more HP and have less wear ?

The original type is being replaced with the latest greatest version. They will be phasing out the original one. The new one has the latest additive chemistry in the industry and even carries a gearlube spec. It has better rust protection than any oils on the market. Amsoil is always trying to improve their oils even when you think they may have the best already. I don't know how much better they can make a motorcycle oil that already was a top performer. I took an oil sample from one of my customers 03 ultra after it had put 9721 miles on the Amsoil and the the report came back so good I could have sold the oil again and this was with the older version. I just got a report back from a 04 road king using syn3 with 3800 miles on the oil and it sheared down to a 40 weight. The wear though did look good. I wonder how much thinner it would have been at 5,000 miles. I would think that Harley would have had the oil company that makes their oil use better additive chemistry to keep the shearing of the oil down.

Yup. Ditto for my bike and cars. I do, however, buy my lawnmower oil at WalMart....my mower is a Honda, after all!
