plasterhead wants to know Dino or Syn?
tryed a few syn brands temp stayed the same ....same temp as dino ..what is a fueling problem?..running lean or running jetting on the money..tryed running fat same temp....guess running 210 to 250 is ok motor seems to like it...not a believer that temp goes down...no way 30 40 deg as some members say running 113

georgedouglas is reading this now saying WTF is this?
Typically synthetic oil will drop the oil temps in Harleys 7 to 15 degrees in bikes without oil coolers versus dino oil. Sometimes you won't see that much if your engine is running super lean with higher than average cylinder head temperatures. I personally have never seen a HD that I sold oil to or my own bikes that didn't drop the oil temp after switching over to Amsoil.

I have used the AMSOIL motorcylce oil for 4 years in mine now. 16000 trouble free miles in Maryland.
I've used every type of oil dino and synthetic in all types of vehicles over the past 40 years and just followed the manufactures recommendations and I have never had a oil related engine, transmission and differential problem. I'm sure Amsoil is a good product since so many knowledgable people use it but I'm also sure that any premium oil/lube will do the job. With no problems

You won't get an argument from me, but I have always been one to push the envelope so I have gone a lot longer on oil changes than engine manufactures recommend for the last 25 years. I refuse to be a victim of big oil dictating to me how long to use their products when they could make a much better longer lasting product if it wasn't for corporate greed.

Funny thing is I now run Mobil 1 in my 7 year old Landcruiser with 60K miles on it (I also use synthetices in the diff's and transfer case and Toyota ATF in the transmission). I will run the motor oil for a year which is about 6K miles. My 2004 4runner with the same engine as the Landcruiser but only 30K miles I use Castrol GTX 5w30 and change it every 4K miles which is about 4 times a year and do the Toyota recommended service to the remainer of the drivetrain. When I get over 60K miles and the warranty is up I will switch it to Mobil 1 5w30 and run it 6-8K miles between changes, along with changing the driveline to synthetics. Dealer recommends 5K mile OCI under warranty. When I did the 1K mile service on my 2006 Dyna Lowrider I went to Syn3 in all 3 holes and will stay with Syn3 for the 5K, 10K, 15K etc. changes. I'm sure there is better oil but I know that what I will be using in all of my vehicles will serve them well and I will not have any lube problems.

I took an oil sample from one of my customers 03 ultra after it had put 9721 miles on the Amsoil and the the report came back so good I could have sold the oil again and this was with the older version. I just got a report back from a 04 road king using syn3 with 3800 miles on the oil and it sheared down to a 40 weight. The wear though did look good. I wonder how much thinner it would have been at 5,000 miles. I would think that Harley would have had the oil company that makes their oil use better additive chemistry to keep the shearing of the oil down.
Where's thew new filter?????????? We need the new filter George....

While Amsoil is just another oil it is very much overated, and I would not put it in my $5 garage sale lawnmower, $20k bike or a $40k p/u or $80k heavy truck.
