What clothes to pack for Sturgis?

I am looking for suggestions on what I need to pack for Sturgis. I am riding from Cleveland to Sturgis so the rainsuit is a no brainer. Here is my question. Should I pack a leather and chaps? Does it get cold enough to require chaps? I have the Alternator leather jacket from Harley which has a zip off panel to convert it to a mesh jacket so that might be the one I take if it a good idea to take a leather. Thanks to anyone who can give me some advice. Any other must take suggestions?

All I can say is prepare for anything because in a days time out in the Black Hills you will likely experience it, late eves out in the hills or early morning can be VERY cold, while midday has the potential to surpass 100 at this time of the year, the temp in Custer for example is generally quite different than Rapid City. One bit of advice is to have a great set of waterproof riding boots, nothing worse than wet feet. Heading out there on the 6th, can't wait!!!

Temp ranges can be extreme, the hills can dip into the high 40's at night, and run into the 100's during the day. Plan on all of it. The 7 day forecast for the area are below average temperatures, and 20-30% chance of showers.

Personally, I am looking forward to the cooler temps this year compared to years past. Just hope the rain holds off.

Here is my list of must haves for a long road trip

1. Be prepared for ANYTHING. That means long johns, leather jacket and chaps, rain suit, full face helmet, winter gloves, daytime and night time goggles and lots of socks.

2. Bike cover, chain, and lock. A small tool kit and hockey puck style plate to put under your kick stand, should you need to park your bike in grass, gravel, sand, or dirt.

3. Make sure both your National H.O.G, membership as well as your AAA membership is current and up to date.

4. Cell Phone Charger, ipod, GPS, and maps are also a MUST!

good luck!

Three years ago Monday and Tuesday night it was in the low 30's.

I suggest to everybody going to take a pair of sweat pants and shirt...that is if you're camping out. Sleeping in a house don't worry bout it. BUT do take your rain gear ANYTIME you go for a ride in the hills....

it has been a nice cool summer here in sturgis so far. i haven't even ran the a/c yet at all this year. i would say, be prepared. jackets, good riding clothes that will keep you warm. even in the hottest of summer time here, it usually cools off very nicely at nite. so be prepared
