Sturgis at the last minute
A group of friends had planned on doing a big trip out to Sturgis this year. But like all big plans, guys kept on dropping out to the point that this looks like it will be a bust.
I have been thinking of heading out by myself or maybe with one other rider.
My question is:
If I show up in the Black Hills without reservations will I be able to find a campsite a) in the outlying areas and b) in Sturgis proper ie: Buffalo Chip for a night or two to see a show.
Any information wold be greatly appreciated.
Jorgy

I always stay at Lamphere, across from Full Throttle and get reservations weeks before but some buds just show up there and set up their tent, trailer, etc. Cheap at 15 bucks per person per night. I think the chips requires payment for the whole week($$$$) but I might be wrong.

Campsites
We stay at Pactola lake(35 miles from Sturgis, smack in the middle of the black hills) they have some campsites that cannot be reserved.Have used them several times when I didn't have reservations. Don't have any knowledge of the Chip though. Come on out, there will be a place for you.

camping
There are several campgrounds in the area between Sturgis and the Chip. You'll have no problem finding a spot. Have a great time.

I never make reservations and never have a problem getting a tent spot at Hog Heaven. If you have money, you can camp there. And it's like 10 minutes from Main Street.

Room available
If you're interested in a hotel room, it looks like I may have one up for grabs. Like you, I've had a coupla people drop out on me and I now have 2 rooms at Cadillac Jack's in Deadwood and really only need one.
http://www.cadillacjacksgaming.com/
The room has 2 queen size beds and is reserved for 5 nights, 8/3-8/8 - check-in on Monday and check-out Saturday. $344/night.
I'm gonna start a new thread to advertise the room as well.
Lemme know if you're interested.

I found the same thing at Lamphere.Always room for tents.Price has gone up this year to $18 per person but still a great deal. You can also stay for one night at the chip but you've gotta pay for the price of the concert that night. HAVE FUN!!!

Last one standing Thanks for the info.
Looks like everyone else in my group has bailed out, so I am off the the Black Hills solo.
Thanks to all for the information.
I am looking to stay at Days End or Lamphere from the 28th to the 5th with one night at the Chip.

You really don't need a reservation for a campground. But you could call Lampere and jsut get one, to be safe. I don't think it does much for you other then piece of mind, there isn't reserved spots. I went my 1st year to Elkhead, 8 miles from Sturgis on 90. Easy on and off. Only bad thing was freeway noise. But I am used to wearing earplugs.
I've stayed at Lamphere too. IMO that side of town just sucks. You have to ride through Sturgis to get anywhere. though there is a dirt road from 90 back there, east of town. I do like going to the FLS just got sick of the traffic.
Both Glencoe and Chip require week long stays. But I think if you buy a concert ticket, you can stay that night. Atleast I think that is how the Chip is. Need to talk to them and see what there current policy is. There was some complaints about raising rates, awhile back.

I stayed at the chip last year. I had no trouble sleeping. I am planning on staying there this year for 2 nights, then one at Hog Heaven. Mon and Tuesday are $55 a person at the chip, which includes the shows (Toby Keith on Mon, with Lita Ford, and Cheech and chong on Tuesday). Wednesday is Aerosmith, but they want $95 for the night, so I will just stay at Hog heaven that night.
The chip does not require reservations, you just pay for the night you want. I am riding solo, unless I pick up a buddy in Colorado. Which is fine by me. I usually have no trouble finding someone to BS with...
If you don't mind camping, you will have no trouble finding a place to stay. IMO, you have to be out of your mind to pay $300+ for a room... or, ya just have more cash than I choose to spend, lol...
Either way, head out, and have a good time. No stress.

The Chip allows you to buy a rally long pass or simply purchase daily passes. Each day is priced reflective of the band playing that night.
