From Chicago or Denver to Sturgis?

Greetings!

For our visit we have 2 opportunities:
1. Fly to Chicago
2. Fly to Denver

Rent in one of those cities a bike and drive to Sturgis.

From Chicago we can visit Milwaukee, but it's far more away.

What I would like to know, how's the route from Chicago to Sturgis? Is it worth it, compared to the trip from Denver?

Any recommendations for the route?

Regards,
Thorsten

kwas is an unknown quantity at this point
The trip from Chicago can be down two ways, super slab or state highways. The slab is 982 miles and very boring for the vast majority (600 to 700 miles), but can be done in two days. The state hwy route can be as scenic as you wish and the mileage depends on what routes are taken. That route can take four or more.
Being from Chicago myself, I would opt for the Denver ride. It has to be better.

The Denver ride is a lot shorter.
It is a little boring until you get north of the Colorado border but that portion is short approx 90 miles.
But you do get a wonderful view of the Rocky Mountains and there are ways to stay off the main hiway if you want.
Once into South Dakota you can go several different ways but going through Custer SD and Spearfish Canyon is one of the best..

Lots of beautiful country side to see and can be done in one day pretty easily...

I have done it several times and am going to do it again this year.. It will be my sons first time to Stugis..

Not sure who rents bikes in the Denver Area but I do know that if you can you should Avoid High Country Harley ..... they are expensive and sub par...

I live in the Chicago area. Traffic through Chicago until you get into Wisconsin quite a way, will be pretty heavy.

Milwaukee will be out of your way if going to Chicago.

If time is a concern at all to you, I'd head to Denver. I rode from Denver to Sturgis last year and did it in around 6 hours or so.
