best rides in sturgis

Going to sturgis this year so was looking for peoples opinions on what are the best day rides while there. The one time I was there
(2007) I did the ride out to Rushmore and Iron Mt. road. Would you recommend going out to Wall and the badlands? Thanks for any suggestions.

Belle Fourche to Alladin, WY, to Alva, WY, to Hulett, Wy, then north to Alzada, MT, then back south to Belle Fourche.

Both excellent, but don't miss the Needles Hiway. On the way way to Devils Tower make sure to go through Ulett on no panties day.

Needles very good. I think what makes the ride even better is that with the exception of a few cars it's all bikes. Colorado has great rides, but to many cages.

Yes, it is a fine ride but requires concentration since you can look around and read your license plate on some of the switchbacks. For a leisurely, scenic ride you can't beat Spearfish Canyon as you mentioned, and for some reason the ride to Devil's Tower (not on the interstate) from Sturgis is ever so majestic.

The wife and I rode up to the tower last year with a couple from Nothern California. Stopped at some small rest. on the way had lunch and continued on. Really nice ride and the weather was great.

Don't know if I'll take the wife to Hulett this year as she's not to big into that type of scene. But I might just have to get lost for a day (again)...

Be sure to take the long way from Sturgis to Rapid City one day. Take Vanocker Canyon Rd off Junction Ave to Nemo. Take a left at the end on Nemo Rd and follow that all the way to Rapid City. Nice ride!!

After all the highway miles to get there I avoid them at all costs.. I don't think I've been on the Vanocker Canyon Rd. maybe I have but I will make a point of riding it this coming trip.

I think Spearfish canyon is one of the most beautiful highways I have ever ridden, I believe I have been there 4-5 times now, at the Spearfish end of it you will see a bar/restuarant called the Chophouse/Whiskey bar, they have the best steaks money can buy IMHO and a nice atmosphere. Make it a point to stop at Bridal veil falls water fall along the way. Needles highway and Iron mountain roads are must see's, still plenty of cars though IMHO and don't forget to watch out for the tour buses that barely fit through the tunnels, some real nice switchbacks but nothing terrible to handle, just need to keep your eyes on the road because the road shoulders are very narrow to non existent, if you get time, the wildlife loop is worth the trip, hundreds of buffalo, pronghorn antelope and don't forget to take a cookie or something for the donkeys. The roads around Nemo also offer another different but beautiful type of scenery, might also want to see Pactola lake while you are there. My suggestion is to get ahold of the maps they provide at the area hotels, they show a nice outline of attractions, I have a few extra's, send me a PM with your address and I will throw one in the mail for you. Damn, I am starting to feel lonesome once again for the Black Hills, heading out there again this year for at least a couple of days again. Almost forgot, the badlands loop is awesome, like being on a different planet, as far as Wall, they have a good breakfast buffet downtown but that's about the nicest thing I can say about it,, just a total tourist trap, you may notice a sign or two hundred along the interstate advertising Wall drug on your way there.
Have fun!

In my opinion, Id stay away from the wall, badlands and needles highway, and the only way id do needles highway is if were early in the morning, its a high traffic area, My favorite ride is by far Spearfish Canyon, or devils tower, Another town i really had a good time in is Beulah wyoming, Was a small bar and some guys doing some street racing while we drank on the front porch, was just a good time, thats my two cents.

Pretty much agree with what everyone says. 3rd year there I did Wall Drug. It was worth it... 1 time only. Badlands too, but you need to stop at the Longhorn Saloon in Scenic SD on the way. Do NOT pick the hottest day for Badlands!

Everything else is fantastic. Spearfish Canyon, Nemo, excellent.
